Title: dosage of oestrogen
Post by: riverrunsfree on December 16, 2017, 10:40:38 PM
Hi...I am confused about whether HRT oestrogen dosage goes up or down with age. I am 50..on 1/10 femoston and thinking of asking doctor if I can go up to 2/10. what is the usual mg of oestrogen? does it need to go up and then down as I head to my mid 50s. Any advice really appreciated

I've decreased my dosage as I've got older (I think)

Started aged 32 at 1mg then 3 weeks later went to 2mg

Now 51 I'm on 2.5 pumps oestrogel, I seem to need less the older I get x

Hi was on 2 pumps of the gel in my 40s but now down to one in my 50s and it works well, no symptoms at all.  :)

riverrunsfree - why do you want to increase your dose - have your flushes returned?  The amount we need will vary from women to women but ideally we should be on the lowest dose possible to control our symptoms.  Higher doses can bring more side effects!! DG x

To double the dose is a big jump.  If you switch to Oestrogel with separate progesterone on a sequential basis, you may find you  either don't need to increase the oestrogen(due to better delivery) or can simply increase by a very small amount.  You could have a Mirena fitted which will then allow you use as little or as much oestrogen as you like.  DG x
