Title: Sandrena

Is it ok to keep using Sandrena oestrogen gel when my mirena coil is five years old?? Does anyone else use it alongside an "older" coil?

Hi luv2laff - notwithstanding what other members might be doing with an older coil - the Mirena is only licensed for use as the progestogen part of HRT for 4 years and for contraceptive purposes for 5 years. Therefore, even though some progestogen will still be released from the Mirena beyond this time, it may not be sufficient to protect the uterus from over-thickening due to oestrogen. In practice if you have not resumed any bleeding then no need to worry but I would arrange to get it renewed as soon as you can at your convenience. You doc should have called you to review this (renewal of the Mirena) if they are prescribing oestrogen gel. What dose of Sandrena are you taking?
