Title: Feeling so ill
Post by: Dotty on November 18, 2017, 11:42:42 AM
Hi everyone. You have all been so kind answering all my questions.

I'm 53, 3 years post meno and started on hrt 4 weeks ago. I was very ill before the hrt .....and although the flushes have stopped during the day and the palpitations have stopped, I still feel very poorly. I have no energy and even getting out of bed is a challenge. I can't do anything around the house because I feel so weak.

Half of me is saying “this hrt is not working” and half of me is saying “you've got to give it time.”

I'm looking for reassurance from you lovely ladies.

Thanks for reading xxxx

Dotty  - the HRT is working, it's just going to take some time for your body to recover. You have started from a very low base and there are no quick fixes.  So often we hear from ladies, posting on this site, that it's taken 3-6 months before the benefits of HRT really did it's magic.  The flushes are better already, the palpations are better - if the HRT does nothing else, then that's great.

Energy and strength will return but you have now got to use some discipline to eat well, go out for short walks and get more active. Do something social - meet with friends, join a club or do something that takes you out of yourself.  Taking proactive measures will bring good things to you - you just have to be open.  You have already started doing this by posting on this site - just apply this to more aspects of your life.

So many of us, including me, have felt the way you do now - it can and does get better but it's down to you to make this happen - HRT can't fix it all.  DG x

Hi DG
Good advice . Things just seem so hard at the moment and I would love to go out for walks and stuff.... but it seems impossible as I am feeling ill . Hopefully things will change soon x

Hi Hasty

No I don't have a bug or a virus. I know 4 weeks isn't long and I know it's working but I just feel so poorly. I will keep taking the hrt ..... there's no doubt about that. xx

HI Dotty

I've been on oestrogen for years and during peri/Post I became exhausted.  No energy for anything and by early afternoon I'd get a horrible crashing fatigue, uncontrollable and never felt better after giving in and napping

I started testosterone and now I've got my get up and go again.

But, you need a good level of oestrogen so carry on with what you're taking and have a read about the benefits of possibly introducing T to your regime, unfortunately there's not many gps that will prescribe but if you present a good case to them and tell them about this site (I wish all gps would read posts on here about areas they're unsure of) and suggest they get opinions from gynaecologists that are open to the prescribing of T in meno women , hopefully you can try it and see if it would help.  It's given me back s sense of wellbeing and crazily I feel more feminine on testosterone than I do without !!

Thanks Annie

I'm just hoping that the hrt will build up my oestrogen soon and I'll begin to feel well again x

If you were 3 years post meno then 4 weeks probably isn't long enough for you to be feeling the full benefits of HRT just yet they recommend trying each HRT for 3 months to feel the full benefits.
I know it's difficult as I think most women think (I know I did ) that HRT would solve all our meno problems immediately but for me it was a very slow process but I got there in the end.
Hang on in there I'm sure things will improve and do keep us updated.

Get your blood done!  You may well be lacking VitD - which is what both my Mum and I began to have symptoms for during the Summer, both independently but her symptoms mimicked mine.  I took myself off for a blood test and hey presto!  Don't blame all symptoms on The Change.

Hi Dotty

I think you've got to give the HRT a few months to show it's real benefits.

I'm 57 and had my last period 2 years ago.  I started Evorel patches 18 months ago as the palps were horendous.  As you saw in my thread I decided to try a menopause magnet and stop the HRT and I'm now starting to feel that perhaps I should stick with the HRT patch as I had a couple of very small palps today and I don't want to go back to horendous palps.

Stick with it for a bit before you decide on what to do.
