Title: post meno bleeding???
Post by: marymary on November 13, 2017, 02:07:20 PM
Hi all, I am 52 and last period was 18mths ago but started bleeding at weekend, not spotting, proper period like, I got spotty, sore boobs, backache and niggly pains a few days before like I used to........thought it was all sorted!! I also had breast cancer 9yrs ago and have been on tamoxifen for 8yrs.....so I know GP will refer me for uss or whatever to measure endometrial layer and then maybe a biopsy, thats what happened last time but I was still having irregular periods then and has a pink watery loss.
I suppose my big worry is that this means the oestrogen levels are up and my cancer was oestrogen sensitive so is this anything t worry about?? I am only having 3yrly mammos now on the screening programme and had one last dec so not due for another two years.....anybody been in similar position???  :)

I really don't know much about this - only what friends who have had breast cancer have told me - but you should pop to the doctor to have things checked and maybe they will review whether you should still be on tamoxifen - I believe they often shift women to a different drug after a certain time on tamoxifen. Hi marymary - welcome!

I agree with Dancinggirl that you should just get this checked out. I think it's good that you had pre-period symptoms before the bleeding started. It isn't uncommon for hormones to give one last fling - a hormonal blip - but it is essential that any bleeding after a year or more without a period is investigated.

If you are post menopausal the usual oestrogen anatagonist is anastrozole - Tamoxifen is for women with regular menstrual bleeds- hopefully your GP will refer you to clinic as it is something that you would need to discuss with your oncology team.
