Hi there Burchers - this topic was discussed at length recently and hopefully this thread will tell you what you want to know, but it got a bit heated and I haven't re-read it since then! Sorry I have no time to post right now - going out and have busy weekend but I am sure others will help if you have any questions. There are some really helpful links in the thread. :)

As Hurdity has already mentioned the term ‘bio idental' is a tricky one.
Most standard hrts that are prescribed on the nhs in the uk have bioidentical oestrogen but most progesterones are synthetic. However there is one prescribable progesterone called Utrogestan which many women find great, whilst others find very problematic.
If you are referring to ‘compounded' hormones, then this is where the controversy arises. Here in the uk, compounded hormones are not deemed safe as they haven't been through rigorous testing - in other countries they are widely used with varying success.
Do not assume that these bio identical ‘ compounded' hormones are safer or more natural.
It is still better to try the tried and tested HRT route through the NHS or a specialist gynaecologists. DG x
