I keep getting messages from my anti virus software about a threat being removed. It's only happening on this site.

I got a message about the server not being able to respond to SMF or something - that's the software that powers the site I think. This happened recently and once a few days previously when I was on hol over the weekend (had an idle moment so looked in but not logged in!). Defo something weird. Also it is being intermittently very slow on my phone - but could be my phone.

I'm still getting a 'threat detected and removed' from my anti -virus software. It's flashing up every few seconds when I click on a thread. Only happening on this forum.

I have noticed that I have no member avatars showing on my iPad at the moment (not sure what that actually indicates) and I have been unable to access the forum on my iPad or my desktop computer on several occasions over the past week.

Have done a google search and the threat being removed by my anti virus is a crypto coin site which can use use 30% of a computer's  CPU. I'm not computer literate so don't want to remove it myself. Each time the threat is blocked my anti virus sends me an email so lots of emails to delete.

Hi katsclaws - I think you should email the webmaster about this, as from what you describe, it would appear that the problem is actually coming from this website itself. His contact details are [email protected]

You must remember why he "disappeared" CLKD surely  :o :o -

He was the original first moderator of MM, We all had a virtual leaving party for Rik & a welcoming party for Emma at the same time. I certainly remember you being involved with it.

Remember "pass the plate for cake etc". There was certainly no mystery to his departure.

We've got rid of the nasty wee hack that's been giving us problems.
If you've got a different coloured theme, I'd suggest clearing your cache or just hitting refresh a few times on your browser.

We seem to have lost our avatars. I'll look into that.

Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Hurdity on October 09, 2017, 05:20:17 PM
I've cleared all cache and cookies browsing data ( from phone - not yet on pc) and still get the same colour scheme. It's not just the colour scheme it looks like it could be the default basic forum software before the customised design for MM as it says "Simple Machines Forum" as the heading on top right and doesn't have the main menu buttons for the website. Will try doing the cache/cookies on my pc and see if it comes back....

Yes mainly shades of grey/blue but very pale pink (to my eyes) at top and yes orange buttons!

Actually, I'm interested to know if anyone has got the old forum ( including the top menu tabs) back now? If not I won't do the cookies on my pc....

CLKD - you were confusing the website with the forum! The website Menopause Matters has all the menopause info on the main menu (which includes the forum as a chat/support part) and will have been designed and built by website company - and is maintained by a webmaster who can be male or female  ::). He ( in this case) will do all the technical and coding stuff at the back-end of the site to enable it to work. The moderator - Emma looks after the forum which will also involve technical stuff too, but not the whole website. As we know all forum members are and have to be female! I also presume the webmaster does most of the background coding stuff for the forum but won't be involved in threads, moderating, registering new members etc.... the leaving party was before my time!!!

Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Hurdity on October 10, 2017, 07:09:26 AM
No need to worry I'm sure! It seems clear to me that it is not a re-design  – looking at the heading at the top – like I said it is probably the default appearance given by the company that provides the forum software.  This will be to ensure functionality while the webmaster fixes any outstanding glitches I imagine. That's the main thing – it all works as a forum and women can post and get help! To refer to the main website it just needs another tab open. If you remember the main website was redesigned a while back but not the forum so I presume it works independently and the one we are used to will have been customised by the web-designer like people do with Word Press for example.

I am sure all will be restored in due course...

Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Emma on October 10, 2017, 12:06:39 PM
Someone was asking if the forum's passwords etc could have been compromised. The answer is NO.
The database wasn't accessed at all. Passwords are 'salted' and encrypted - not even the forum knows your real password which is why you can't have a password reminder, you have to reset your password if you've forgotten it.

What happened was that an exploit was made in an add-on to the forum and a small line of code entered into the page to 'mine' for Bit Coins.

I have this for Bramble and CLKD too.

I have noticed on other sites that some photos people load are fine, and others not and you get a little black box with a cross in it instead.  However, they are visible on the I-pad.

Not sure if it is the firewall/antivirus thing blocking them, or if it is in a form that does not agree with the computer  ???
