Over the last couple of weeks I keep reading here and on Facebook menopause groups women feeling low, not themselves ect, so I thought we could share what lifts you, makes you happy, feel good about yourself as may give others ideas. 💕
I no when you have depression on top it's hard to do things as when I'm low I just want to hide but even giving yourself a little goal can make you feel like you have achieved something even if it's having a pamper bath, going for a walk, baking a cake ect.
I like to do my nails as always makes me feel glam even when I'm spotty, feeling bloated, tired ect.
Or going for a nice walk listening to happy music. Xxx
Hope you ladies find this helpful xxx

Going for a lovely, long walk in our nearby park which is big, full of hilly bits, has a pond with swans on it and full of trees.
Any time one of my siblings is staying with Dad or visiting him, as this gives me some real me-time.
Wearing new clothes/shoes
.......................and playing the organ, surprise, surprise!

Ah the organ, that's fantastic and I'm with you on new clothes (just a bit to addicted to shopping) 😂
It sounds beautiful where you live xx

Deep bubble bath with cups and Very Good Book
Dawn Chorus
Himself giving me gentle stroking when I'm stressed
Being able to relax in warm sunshine
-
Hope I do love classical music, I do think your right about the news too as my daughter says I watch it to much and always so sad.
CLKD warm sunshine is just so nice and uplifting, just goes to show a lot of what makes us happy is free. Xxx

What a lovely idea Butterfly98. For me it is looking at the wonderful Cumbrian hills from my lounge window. Putting some 60's music on loud and singing along and reading a good book
-
Ah that sounds perfect and thank you, I no music lifts me and motivates me if I don't feel in the mood.
I don't drive so when I am out walking I put my headphones in, I love every type of music apart from heavy metal and opera, I do love 60's though 🎧 Xxx
-
Ah fab sparkle, I no I feel so much better when I pop my trainers on and go for a walk, even when it's cold it's just nice clearing your head xx
-
A great thread - thanks Butterfly98 :D
I love a hot bath, boxsets with chocolate and a cup of tea or my absolute favourite cuddling up to one of my cats and listening to them purr :cat48: :cat48:
-
Wish I could like all these like on Facebook 💖😂
There is something very comforting about purring cats ☺️
I guess on a night so I'm not snacking I always have a Horlicks about 8 and only something little but something I look forward to (I'm easy pleased these days) 😂
I do like watching Netflix too so great things on there to watch xxx

When, in the 1990s, I was coming out of a bad few weeks of depression and anxiety that had made me housebound, I made sure that I stopped at least once a day to find a dew-drop on a leaf, a nearly unfurled bud, a rose bud ........ any small thing that would lift my mood. Tonight it is a FabULus sunset: pale pinks and blues on a background of pearl, followed by deep azure and grey with a straight line of orange along the bottom.
-
Ah that's lovely it's the little things that lift us, since hitting my 40's life seemed to change on the important things.

I saw this on the internet a while ago and so true 💕
*I am grateful for early wakeups because it means I have a job to go to or children to take care of and love.
*I am grateful for a house to clean because it means we have a safe place to live.
*I am grateful for laundry to wash because it means we have clothes to wear.
*I am grateful for dirty dishes because it reminds me we had food to eat.
*I am grateful for crumbs under the table because it reminds me of meals shared with family and friends.
*I am grateful for shopping to do and that I have money to even do it.
*I am grateful for toilets to clean because it reminds me we have indoor plumbing.
*I am grateful for lots of laughter, silliness, and noise because it means my family is having fun.
*I am grateful for endless questions because it means my kids are learning.
*I am grateful for getting into bed sore and tired at the end of a day because it means I was productive and I am still alive.
When you feel like complaining about a responsibility, ask yourself what the alternative would look like. Let's choose to be grateful and to see these things with the proper perspective – as blessings in our lives.

Our Souls at Night with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford is just released on Netflix Butterfly98. Could be good to watch
-
Ah thank you I'll look out for that ☺️Xxx

Can I add one to your list please, Butterfly98?
*I am grateful I now live on my own, because it means I don't have to do any of the above if I don't feel like it :)

......................my absolute favourite cuddling up to one of my cats and listening to them purr :cat48: :cat48:
:cat88:
Nothing quite beats a cat's purr, does it, Salad? Years ago, when our now-departed moggie was still around, I remember her draping herself round the front of my neck and shoulders at a time when I was feeling really yeuch with a virus that wouldn't go. She lay there like a sort of warm, cozy purring poultice (!) for about twenty minutes. It was gorgeous.

Laughed out loud at the 'purring poultice' - such a purrfect description ;)

I have started making fruit Smoothies in the morning...bought a cheap blender from Lidl. Re-reading the Nancy Drew and Arthur Ransome books I loved as a teenager...am going to buy a cheap violin for Christmas for myself as I used to play at primary school and my daughter has just started lessons. Bought some new trainers and jeans for myself as I never buy clothes for me, always the kids. Went for Reiki....different! Oh yes... saved the best till last...I haven't shared this with anyone in my real world but you lovely ladies of the forum give me confidence... I ordered something new and pink with batteries to help me relax as I find nothing makes me relax these days. (Got that last tip from an American friend who is very forward in her views. She said that is how American women get through the menopause and us Brits should follow their lead)!
-
Roseneath that's sounding really positive and looking after yourself for once as mums always seem to be last on the list.
Hehe well that's a good idea release those endorphins.
We are quite prudish in this country and never talk about these things.
Mind every time I open the womans mag they have one on the back page!!!
Hope just tell whoever is buying it for you to warn you what it is as you may be sitting with family and I no I'd be mortified!!! Haha! Can you imagaine! I think I'd say it was a new thing to make smoothies 😂Xxx
-
How can a cat purr and eat at the same time ;D
-
Another thing that makes me feel good is putting my makeup on, I no not everyone likes make up or needs it but I feel and look tired without mine, it gives me confidence when I put it on.
A lot of department stores do makeovers if anyone is unsure of what suits them etc. Xxx
-
Interesting Buttlerfly98. I never went out without makeup and then when we retired and no one seemed to bother up here I am afraid I followed suit. Then I thought...no more.... I also look really tired without it so when I go out I have started to wear it again. It gives me confidence and last week a few people said that I looked well so I am please I am making the effort once again.
-
Ah that's great, I no when I don't wear people say I don't look well, but love wearing it, and treating myself to a new gloss etc.
I went through a stage of not wearing it for a few years and like you I thought no I want to wear it, for me, I feel so much more confident and feel good about myself.
Xxx

Seeing my 16 year old son's beaming smile each morning makes my day, apart from me and him everyone else in our house are miseries in the morning.
He has also been very ill this year, still trying to get his health sorted,
but he just gets on with it :)
-
Looking forwards to a bubble bath with some new books bought from charity shops today
-
Oh I love a good bubble bath I feel like one now 😂xx
-
I'll run it for you - any flavour of bubbles ? cuppa to hand.
-
Oh thanks maybe something relaxing please, black tea too 😂 Xxx
-
I'm feeling good because, after losing 4.5 stone (so far - another 3.5 to go!) I am a size 16! I haven't been this size for about 20 years - it's taken some time to accept what's in the mirror but actually .... I'm looking good!! I've started running too, and I'm really feeling the benefits. Onwards to my goal of target weight and running 5km before I'm 50 (next August) :)
-
Hey there Scampi that's brilliant! Losing weight is so hard especially when you get older! I thought there was a medal but I couldn't see it so here are some flowers! :congrats:
Wonderful that you are now able to take more exercise - and that will all help you to lose more and benefit your heart and general health!
Hurdity x :)

Wow well done scampi that's fab as it is hard to lose weight xxx
