The line-up could be 14 random people from my local Asda and I'd still watch Strictly - I LOVE it!

I think that out of all the 'talent' shows this is by far the most professional.
I don't even like a lot of the dances but I like to see how the people progress.
The judges put people through on merit, not like other tv shows where most people are put through to cause controversy and sell the show.

There was a tribute to Sir Bruce last week - and tonight it all kicked off.  Most of the participants seem as though they will pick up the footwork without too many problems and OH the costumes!  Well done ...........

I may not know who most of them are but I loved it, especially the Rev  ;D

Oh I feel for Rev Richard.  He has bitten off more than he can chew, as like me, his brain doesn't get to his feet quickly enough.  I do hope that he gets through the next 3 weeks or so that he can relax a bit, finding a way of learning the steps B4 putting in arm movements etc..

All this and having to work on Sundays too ;-).  Maybe he can incorporate his training into his Sermon.

Just caught up with Strctly as we were away over the weekend and really enjoyed it. The Rev is obviously this years Ed Balls I have watched his dance several times first time in stunned silence but by the more times I watched it the more I laughed great entertainment value looking forward to next week.

Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Scampi on October 09, 2017, 07:23:03 AM
Charlotte is truly hopeless - and Brendan really gets on my nerves with his constant arguing with the judges (I think they know what they are talking about!!) and flouting the rules.  I think it's time his contract was reviewed  ;)  His arrogance isn't entertaining anymore.

Yep.  Certainly Davood (?) should stay as he is improving week on week.  Poor chap though, having to do that dance again when he had been so ill all week  ::)

Anyone feel that Craig has mellowed a bit?  I think Shirley fits in well.
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: star35 on October 16, 2017, 06:40:50 PM
Yes Craig is definitely not the same this series he seems to be finding some thing nice to say every time, and even if he doesn't say any thing nice he is nowhere near as rude as he used to be.

Where was the Halloween Music in the Halloween edition? Was waiting for Thriller, Monster Mash etc to start up! Make up was great but felt the show lacked ' spookyness'...even the presenters just had dresses on. Glad Susan stayed in...that girl has guts and can dance..ditto Debbie.

I don't like Halloween weekend, too many gimmicks!
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Two hoots on October 31, 2017, 01:17:21 PM
I found it a confusing show, it was called Halloween but what does game of thrones have to do with it ?
Alexandra had fantastic make up but Gemma had nothing ?

I thought Simon deserved to go but I have no idea what his costume was, and I didn't like the way Karen and Simon chewed all through the judges comments, I liked him before strictly but I've changed my opinion, now I think he's too self important.

My favourites tonight were Susan and Joe. Debbie was also very good. Suspect that Ruth should go this time but I did enjoy her dance despite everything.

Debbie is amazing.  I have just worked out that she's only 5 years younger than me 😱
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Two hoots on November 05, 2017, 11:19:09 AM
Davood was my favourite last night, I think he should have had higher marks. Debbie was good but because I thought it was an odd choice of music I didn't love it. I think Susan just stomps around she doesn't pick her feet up enough, I think Susan and Ruth are the two weakest dancers and I hope they don't survive over someone who is a better dancer.

I voted for the first time this series, it's free on the Internet  ;D I gave my 3 votes to Gemma, I like her and Aljaz but thought they might be in trouble because they were towards the bottom of the leaderboard.

Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: CLKD on November 05, 2017, 05:33:23 PM
I haven't voted this Season yet.  What was with Craig though  and poor Anton, falling at the end.  For Ruth it was a very good attempt, one I could have watched for much longer.  I think that Susan stomps too much but it's not been mentioned by the Judges.

All in all, so far, Good Dancing  ;)

What a shock. Can't say he was one of my favourites but he was good.  I was very surprised that Gemma wasn't in the dance off as her dance looked quite stiff and the lifts were pretty bad too
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: littleminnie on November 06, 2017, 08:45:06 AM
Definitely a popularity contest.
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Scampi on November 06, 2017, 12:45:19 PM
As soon as an element of public vote is included, it becomes a popularity contest.  It's the same every year at this stage - the better dancers (though not usually the best) end up 'in danger' due to the pubic vote.  I didn't agree with the outcome this week (possibly partly because I'm not a big fan of Mollie and wouldn't have been sorry to see her go!), but Strictly will always have weeks like this as long as the public vote is included in the decision making process.

Do they get the choice of music?
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Lanzalover on November 06, 2017, 03:45:16 PM
Well that was a shock didn't see Sunday's show but understand that Mollie was the much better dancer in the dance off.

There has been some very strange scores handed out this series never seen so many tens awarded (not always justified in my humble option ) I can rember when you were lucky to see one before the final.

Oh, it seems more staged every year  ::) - lovely speeches from Susan and Kevin, interesting that Karen was the first onto the floor ........

Most of the celebs. say that they will continue dancing but how many actually have done, wouldn't that be another 'take' on Strictly!
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: katsclaws on November 27, 2017, 07:38:17 AM
Susan is doing the Strictly tour so I think that is what she means about carrying on dancing with Kevin. Some of the media at the weekend speculated that Kevin and Karen were on the verge of splitting up so perhaps that is why she was first on the dance floor. When Deborah Meaden was on Strictly her husband secretly took up ballroom dancing so that he could dance with her.

I love that Deborah's husband took dancing lessons so that they could dance together after she finished strictly. Susan had to go last night but she was always entertaining and brought a smile. At this stage she couldn't have competed with the others

Not sure who is going to win.  Alexandra will get to the final I think but don't think she will win.  Joe and Gemma are very popular with the public.
Debbie is amazing.
Title: Re: Strictly - 2017
Post by: Scampi on December 04, 2017, 09:51:01 AM
I've felt quite sorry for Alexandra this last couple of weeks - there are certain parts of the press that clearly don't like her and publish 'rumours' of rifts with her dancing partner and fellow contestants, together with reports of her being 'false' (usually in the guise of 'our readers are saying ...').  Unfortunately, this bad press seems to be influencing the voting and she's clearly not popular with the viewers.  She's a really good dancer - deserves to be in the final - she's struggled with the emotions of the programme as she lost her Mum (to whom she was very close) in late summer and dearly wishes she could share the joy of the dancing with her.  I wasn't a big fan at the start, but she's really grown on me, and she's obviously working very hard on the technical aspects of her dancing (she quite clearly acts on the judges' comments).

I hope Alexandra and Gorka make it to the final without having to battle another dance-off, but I doubt it.  I want Molly and AJ to go - I just can't warm to them and I don't think she's particularly good.  She's improved a little in recent weeks, but her core is still very weak and she's nowhere near as good as Debbie, Joe and Alexandra, and Gemma is just more entertaining!

I agree!  Apparently Craig has had input into Alexandra's dancing in the recent past.

I was  sorry to see Davood go as he  had started to really improve over the last few weeks and came across as a genuinely nice guy. It was unfortunate that he got the AT in musical week as with different music and without the hinderence of the mask on his vision I thought his dance could have been great.

Still feel Mollie or Gemma should have gone before him  and he was just unlucky that he was up against Alexandra as the judges were never going to send her home although personally I didn't like her dance or costume one little bit this week and for some reason I just cann't warm to her to me she comes across as totally fake but that's just my opinion.
