Title: Breast lump
Post by: Pollyanna on August 08, 2017, 10:04:33 AM
Hi ladies

Ironically, a month after my regular breast screening, I have developed a large lump at the side of my left breast.

I noticed it 4 days ago. Never had breast problems since peri, ten years ago when I used to get mastitis and nipple discharge.

I've stopped Tibolone as was having too many negative side effects and I've never been comfortable taking pills.

Never had breast problems during my time on oestrogen patches.

I'm seeing my (rather condescending) GP tomorrow. If she gives me one hint that she feels I'm overreacting, I'm going to complain about her manner.   I'm not the neurotic type but she is very judgemental.

Anyway, not worrying really but it's really sore which makes me feel it's a benign cyst.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Pollyanna

It's such a worry finding a breast lump isn't it  :foryou:
You're doing the right thing in seeking help from your GP. Your GP might offer an opinion which is great but only a thorough check up will reassure you -  so expect a two week referral to a Breast Specialist for investigations.

Good luck with your appointment and I hope your GP is receptive to your needs.

Hi Salad

That's so kind of you. Thank you.

Fingers crossed but I'm sure it's related to the Tibolone.

Hi Pollyanna

Sorry to hear about this and I know how you feel. I have had various breast lumps/lumpy breasts when younger and used to get mastitis regularly when breast-feeding.  As Salad says - I also wish you well with your investigation and hopefully it will be as you say, a benign cyst.

Take care, hope your appointment goes well and try not to worry in the meantime.

Got the date wrong for dr's appointment.  It's Thursday, not today.

Must say, today I am feeling pretty unwell.  Both breasts are very hot and both sore, even though the palpable mass is the left breast.  Also noticed that the skin at the side is darker.... almost looks bruised.

I've a day at home today so, too much time to worry but, I find myself thinking worst case scenario.

I know breast tenderness is common but this is most unusual for me.  It's also very hard and large and really sore.

Stop poking?  Maybe take some Nurofen or Paracetamol?

Could it be mastitis if it's hot hard and sore - that's what used to happen with mine when I got it? Not sure if you can get mastitis after menopause? If you are feeling feverish generally as well, and have a temp I would go to the doc because if it is this then antibiotics would be needed?
