Title: Duvets
Post by: Yorkshire Girl on August 07, 2017, 04:24:52 PM
Ok interesting I brought a new king-size duvet cover for our king-size duvet so why is the cover about 6in too big width ways & also too long in the length? Have they changed sizes while I haven't been looking ;D

I believe you can get superking size and emperor size, Yorkshire Girl.............maybe it's one of those, in the wrong package?

I have that issue too. Some covers are a perfect fit, but not many.

I thought that Dulciana, so checked label definitely King-size!
Glad it's not just me littleminnie, I was on the verge of putting old one back on, thought better of it, has a rather large hole in it!!

Buy a new duvet?  We ditched the duvet years ago, it caused too many hot/cold problems  ::)

Yes that's what hubby said, I was shocked as he's not one to spend money on things that are still serviceable!!
I've been tempted to ditch the duvet, but love it too much!!

It made me sneezy in the early hours: too hot, too much dust around, not enough temp regulation for me.

I expect it is the sort of cotton.

I had a set of fitted sheets that were way too big for the mattress but they got progressively smaller until I got fed up of trying to stretch them on (and breaking my finger nails) and threw them away.

If you dry anything using a tumble dryer it will shrink over time because of the effect of the heat on the fibres.

However when I've bought duvet covers in the past I find some fit a lot better than others so the problem could be variation between both duvet and cover manufacturers and how good their quality standards are. Or maybe even just their measurements are different.

I never tumble dry fitted sheets now  ;D  Or socks  ;)

I bought a pure wool duvet recently - it regulates your body temperature, I love it - I had taken old duvet off for a few months and had a throw-over but I missed the weight which sounds weird ::)  I know ikea sizes are different - and if I use tmbledryer the bed linen shrinks over time - but I use it anyway as I like the softness :-\

Probably from the New Zealand lamb that we import to eat?

Will definitely look into it.
I know here in Yorkshire there is one of not two manufacturers of wool duvets!

I remember being given my first "continental quilt" when I was a teenager!  Goodness, that name seems old-fashioned now!
