Anyone, just watched Usain Bolt's last ever race? What a race. I have no time for dirty athletics but am feeling for the reaction to Gatlin's win is cruel. Should he have been allowed back into athletics after his bans finished? Probably not. That's a position that I would support. However, the IAAF allows athletes who have served their ban should be able to return to competition and that is a position we have to accept, until the IAAF choses to repeal that law and decide that all who have failed drugs tests are banned for life. Only issue there might be any drug legally prescribed by a doctor for a specific condition. That would be provable obviously and I do know that the list of approved medications is not exactly wide ranging.
What do others think?

Yes I watched it. It was unsportsmanlike to boo like that but at the same time Gatlin was banned & I'm not sure whether he should have been allowed to compete but the IAAF has it's rules & regulations....
-
If I'd been there I wouldn't have booed but I wouldn't have clapped either.
-
A good way of showing displeasure littleminnie.
-
I watched, very exciting race. I too would have stayed silent. My opinion as to if he should have been allowed back into athletics.........NO. He cheated TWICE!

I watched it too. I hope i wouldn't have booed if I had been there but i understand the wish to do so. I really wish he hadn't won. he doesn't deserve it. I don't mind that Bolt didn't win but would have been happy for any of the other athletes to do so.

There should be a Life ban for cheats. End of. However, competitions will never be completely clean ......... I don't even watch athletics as I don't trust the competitors.
-
CKLD I don't ever watch athletics but I had just finished watching a film and race was about to start so watched. Have to agree there's always that wondering if
I'm with you Ellie

I lost the egg and spoon race aged 5. Put me off running for Life ;D
-
Can't be doing with running it's not good for your health!!
-
I ran once......but the bus left me standing there anyway :cuss:
-
Whoops ....... if I looked as ill as Paula Radcliff did during her Career I wouldn't have got out of bed!
Is it a good Championship this time? I find it too noisy to watch these days :sigh:

The only race I ever won was a 3 legged aged 5. I did it with my neighbour and we practised several times round the garden.

Awful news about the 'bug' going round the various Hotels :bang: :bang: :bang: ......... was it brought into the Country or :-X
-
Stomach bugs aside, I was pleased that the IAAF saw sense and let the Botswanan athlete qualify for the 200m semi final. He didn't take a medal in yesterday's final, but at least fair play was seen to be done.
Used to be middle distance runner at school and up to the time of the RTA. Nasty man took my physical interests too, judo and running. Managed to still sail and canoe once the hospital finally set me free! If only I could generally get that fit again.
Never ever managed to get the egg safely to the finish line. Spoon was no problem, that egg however had ideas all of its own! Three legged races always ended in disaster, painful disaster. As for hurdles, they b....y well hurt. Not my idea of fun. Discus and javelin were just lethal. Rounders were OK, netball frustrating, hockey dangerous. The most dangerous sport I ever took part in, lacrosse.

Egg race & potato race were my forte. Never the fastest runner, but had a steady hand. ;D

My Mum is decluttering 'precious' stuff, so that I don't have to sort it at some stage. Part of one load was a piece of blue ribbon on a safety pin, that was given for coming 1st or 2nd in a sports day race in primary school. No idea what it was for, but nice to know I won something sporty once in my life! Unless it was a booby prize! I was the girl you chose last for teams, even if I was your best friend!
-
.... that was me too Ju Ju - or I was chosen due to being 'teacher's pet' >:( [which I wasn't :-\]
Hopefully the athletes will have less rain today!
-
Thank goodness our two were more athletic. Eldest GD is a phenomenal swimmer, puts her grandparents to shame.
Sad to see last of Usain Bolt. :'( Great athlete!
-
Ju Ju & CKLD that was me also, always picked last. I was useless at sport!
-
Mo, thank you. It will be a pleasure to see you out on the road. You've done us proud.
If screams from Plymouth to Lind couldbeheard, they were mine!

This evening is one of tears, of joy for our girls in the 4 x 100 SILVER and our boys with their GOLD in their equivalent, of disappointment for Usain Bolt and his guys.
Tomorrow sees the close of this World Championship. We've been treated to wonderful performances. We have new youngsters coming through for the future.
I'm hoarse now!!!!!!
-
Felt so sorry for Usain Bolt! However, well done to GB & NI 4x100 metre relay teams!
-
Ouch, that was cruel. The Chinese athlete in bronze was disqualified just about 25/30m from the finish. She was given her 3rd warning for her foot action. Apparently the chief judge is the only one who can actually DQ anyone, even though she got her 3rd red warning half way up The Mall on the final lap.
Last night did see today's stars retire and the new vanguard of British athletics begin to shine. We'er so lucky to have such depth in our talent pool for the future. Mo intends to take to the road, so more fireworks from him in the future!

What an amazing Championships.
I really think that the manner of the medal ceremonies has taken them back to basics. No flowers, no gimics or stuffed toys. Just medals, brilliant. Also, the simple but effective way of presenting the national flags. All done with beautiful style.
Our girls and guys gave EVERYTHING. I'm totally proud of our national team, I hope you are too.
Brendan Foster, thank you for your athletics and your commentaries. Enjoy your retirement.

I agree Brighteyes. The athletes are out to win medals, not cuddly toys. Also liked the way national flags were presented.
