well I'm eight days into hrt(divigel) and so far so good, no nasty side effects except, and I'm not sure if it's related but I am totally exhausted. I'm not talking tired I mean I could sleep standing up and i'm not long out of bed, the type of tiredness that makes you feel dizzy and sick. I had hysterectomy 5 years ago (still have ovaries) I was just wondering if this is a coincidence or hrt related, I got my B12 injection last week ( get it every 3 months ) and this normally helps with tiredness, but this really has me floored today. Anyone else have this and more importantly any suggestions as to overcome it, Thanks in advance, surprised I stayed awake long enough to type this ;)

Crashing fatigue can be difficult. I remember my Mum sitting down suddenly and dropping off to sleep for a couple of hours, there was nothing she could do about it!
HORMONES >:( ::) ........ when my brain shuts down I have to sleep regardless. I still sleep at night.

Hi, I am experiencing the same being absolutely shattered and only being awake for four - five hours per day; after nearly 12 months of no answers a ferritin blood test was done which revealed a massive lack of iron, this is not the same as anemia I am now on 200mg of iron three times a day for two months then reducing dose. It is four weeks since I started the iron and I am beginning to stay awake longer in the day and have a little more energy. Have you had your Ferritins checked?
-
Bloods checked every three months as I'm type two diabetic B12 low so injection every 12 weeks, feeling so low at the moment in bed I the middle of the day when I should be looking after my three year old grandson. When will this nightmare end I don't think I can take much more :'( :'( :'(. I just don't know if it's the hrt
-
Listen to your body? Rest ........... maybe have a talk with your diabetic nurse?
-
Just awake after eight hours in bed and I still feel exhausted. Just had tea and toast but I'm going to stay in bed and rest. Will try ring doc in the morning not sure whether to take hrt tomorrow or not? I have never been so tired in my life :-\
-
Has your vit d been tested ? as that won't be a normal test to check and also low magnesium can cause the same problems , a vast majority of us are magnesium deficient due to modern day farming and depletion of it in the soil from over production .
-
Thanks Maryjane I will get doc to do tests next time have a visit. I have magnesium so I might try that in the meantime. Do you think I should continue with the hrt for now?qq
-
I can't say re HRT ....the HRT could be a red herring regards exhaustion , also from a lecture I went to on B12 the UK only every 3 months just isn't often enough .....if you are on face book there is a very good knowledgeable group find the UK based one.

Hi,
Your Ferritin levels would not be checked with your B12 blood test it has to be requested on the blood form separate to B12.
I do hope things improve for you soon.
-
Thank you wagon I'm going to phone doc now and request tests. In the meantime I'm not taking hrt and see how it goes

I got dog tired 10 weeks into HRT for about 3 days. Have never felt such a zombie. It was around Day 26 of my cycle (or Day 16 of my fake HRT cycle as I started HRT mid way through which seemed to mess everything up!) Felt better the last two days so think it was a short term thing; at the time everything seemed hopeless I was so tired. I hate asking for my bloods to be re-done - usually get told that 6 months ago they were OK so no need - makes me feel like a hypochrondriac. I hv been craving Marmit on toast (B12/iron?).
-
have stopped hrt, and feel ok. Doc gave me form for blood tests. I am getting everything checked on Thursday morning in the hospital, Iron, B12, ferritin, thyroid, glucose etc. so hopefully when I get results I can sort myself out. still tired but able to function so I will stay away from hrt and see how I get on. To be honest if I can cope without it I will. By the way I'm craving apples, not a bad thing but just curious why
-
I've never craved apples ::) ............ what do apples have 'in' them, for me bananas cured restless legs due to potassium. Sometimes our bodies demand minerals etc., i.e. some ladies eat coal when pregnant ::)
-
Well I got my blood test results back today and in docs words 'I'm running on empty ' she said my iron levels are at rock bottom. Starting iron and vit c tomorrow and hopefully should start to feel better soon. She said no wonder I'm exhausted level so low. Will keep you posted how I get on
-
If don't return or drop when you stop iron pills , a colonoscopy is recommended to check all ok in there re anemia .
I see you have had a hysterectomy as this would also be checked as well if still had a womb.
Ferritin levels just don't get checked enough for exhaustion, very different to iron levels.
-
Thank you maryjane, doc will be keeping a close eye on levels, she was surprised I had the energy to walk around never mind function. Fingers crossed pills will sort things, I've decided to be as positive as I can that this is going to help.

Hi Just caught up with you last posts, I am so pleased you have the answer.
As I wrote earlier I had / have the same problem, I am well into my second month on iron, I do have more energy although still very tired and I noticed last week when I wash my hair I no longer leave more than one or two hairs this is a massive improvement I did not realise my low ferritin was causing this. I have previously had the same problem but was only given a month's iron and told I would be fine this has not been the case so I hope your GP has arranged to have your Ferritins checked again? if not request rechecking in my case the low ferritin level 6.9 has been put down to mal absorption although no tests have been carried out. Wishing you well.
-
Thank you wagon, how long does it take for iron to start working. Only 6days in hoping for some improvement soon. Also I seen to have a lot of heartburn the last few days, not sure if this is related.
-
Hi
It took a good six to eight weeks before I was not needing to sleep so much, but your absorption rate is probably better than mine as I have had many abdominal operations. I am still tired but do have some energy, ferrous sulphate has now reduced to one a day, and I look as if I have not slept for weeks so I have asked the surgery if the GP will do a blood form to see what the level of my ferritins are, hoping to collect the form on Monday if GP said yes.
As for your heartburn yes it is related to ferrous sulphate but you should not take anti acid medication as the iron is affected by it. You could request Ferrous Fumarate which is supposed to be gentler so reducing the heartburn, I have not had experience of this only read about it so cannot say if it works or not, I gather dark chocolate is very beneficial unfortunately I'm not keen so have to have more milk chocolate :). Best Wishes.

Ho, I got really bad with iron and had to stop. My stomach was extremely painful and my hiatus hermit started acting up, I was also very dizzy. Doc reckons it was too strong for me so I am starting spatone in the morning taken with vit c drink, because spatone is liquid doc hopes it will be much easier on my stomach, so fingers crossed x
