Hi,
I have used estring for about a year (I tried without for six months, which ended in massive VA flare up…still been having external soreness and burning)
To cut a long story short, I eventually got some estriole cream from my GP to use externally alongside the estring, with guidelines being twice per week for two weeks, then once a week.
I understand estriole to be the weakest of the estrigens, and that's fine by me, but at the moment, I'm applying a small amount Morning and night, daily, figuring it could act as a loading no dose, started this a week ago. I am definitely more comfortable, and I have been using YES VM in between morning and night estriole applications.
Yesterday I thought I would try with just the YES VM and apply estriole only at bed time, but by the evening I felt more sore again.
I'm just concerned to over use, am I right to think a few weeks loading and then I might be able drop application to one a day, or every other day?

Personally I think it's just trial and error with dealing with symptoms of VA. I was prescribed 2 vagifem per application and have been using ovestin externally with 1 vagifem, I'm still trialling for the perfect combo (and to cut down on my regime to make it easy) and so far back to 2 vagifem @ 4/5 times a week is helping. I've always got ovestin handy. Personally, I'm not worried about overloading, comfort is my priority

I use estriol am/pm , please remember that amount I use re local oestrogen from the estriol is equivalent to about 1/2 HRT pills a YEAR.....the environment is full of hormones in many different ways.
-
Thanks ladies, Maryjane, it was when you mentioned in my previous post that a tube of estriole applied externally could last a year, I'm thinking no way if I have to apply twice daily 😊
-
Probably would last a year ? At twice a day the amount I use , but if I need two tubes a year so be it.
The rule books have gone out the window re my vagina, she and I are long lost relatives who somehow have to get along with each other , with lost of compromise. 😉
-
I'm not sure how long my first tube lasted, I'd say @4 months maybe bit more but I smothered that blimming doodah to bits to get rid of the burning and itching
-
What's the estring like? Can you insert yourself? I'm not liking vagifem. It's not lubricating, just putting a sticky coating on the inside like glue,
-
Estring is great in my opinion, I find it easy to insert and forget it's there, just needed estriole for external comfort, still trial and error
-
Estring great, just forget it's in there
-
I have been using estring for about a month now, and have found it to be much better than ovestin or vagifem. I had insane itching when using both / either of these and within a few days the estring was comfortable and now I don't realise it's there.
-
Great. How long does it stay? Does it produce a gluey gel like vagifem? Urm, do you remove it for sex ???
-
Lasts 90 days , can't feel it , stays in with sex. 😊
-
No glueyness, lasts 90 days, personal choice regarding remove or not for sex, I do personally, and just put it back in afterwards
-
Great, thanks. I'm going to ask for this. Do you put it in yourself?
-
Yes most do , elderly ladies quote often get the GP to do it , re arthritis etc.
It's a bit of a knack , but it's easy now , I have a long vagina so does get a bit lost in the abyss. 🙈
-
;D Maryjane!
Katina, the gynae put my first one in, and I was a bit apprehensive to remove it in case I couldn't do it, but as long as you make sure it sits above your public bone it should stay put when you go to toilet etc.
I had a diaphragm/cap years ago, and I liken the estring to that, but without the cap 😊
-
Mine goes up and tucks under the cervix , right up by my coccyx I said I had a abyss , 3 9lb babies . 😜
-
You use the cream twice a day on the outside or internally too?
The tube is really tiny like 15g
-
My tube is 80g it's not ovestin , it's the large estriol tube.
I put it in the vestibule area , and on the perinium plus I have the estring which is for the internal area.
Plus I use systemic all for VA.
-
MAryJane, is estriol and ovestin the same thing? Is estriol the generic? The 15g tube is tiny. If you were putting it up it would only last a week, if that
-
Ovestin and estriol are different , the estriol is weaker.
Yes a tube of ovestin wouldn't hardly last me , and ovestin burns this doesn't ,I don't put it up it's just rubbed in the vestibule area.
