Can any of you offer advice on stopping restless legs at night. Four hours before I could get to sleep last night. Tried getting up, legs out of light covering, raising legs up and down etc. etc. All failed 😢😢
Any advice greatly received from a very sleepy JaneinPen 😴😴😴

BANANAS - lots of! 4 me it's lack of potassium. Some find they need more magnesium.
I suffered intermittently for years. I would lay with my legs up but of course, when dropping off to sleep the legs would drop too. I've hung them over the edge of the bed. I was advised by NAPS to eat every 3 hours and included bananas in my diet, within 5 nights the sensations had disappeared. I ate bananas daily for the next 5-6 years with no return of symptoms.
If I find them pulling as I get into bed I take 2 Nurofen. That helps. It can be a destroying condition.

Every sympathy. Mine have been less active of late, but always happened around bedtime. Nightmare when you're trying to get to sleep. I've done the getting up for a walk, the bedcover hokey-cokey.
-
I am aware of mine all day but it doesn't 'start' until I'm trying to sleep >:(. However, if I sleep in the day, either on the sofa or in the bed, it doesn't happen :-\

Thanks CLKD not keen on bananas but could get some potassium tablets. I will try anything!!!! Interesting but my restlessness usually starts during the evening if it is going to be a problem that night.
-
Let us know how you get on. Have a chat with a Pharmacist about the potassium ..... there are other food stuffs with it but only bananas cured those sensations for me.
-
........ it shows that this thread is also locked :-\

Thank you CLKD

It was moved CLKD as under wrong heading.

Let us know what helps!

Magnesium tablets worked for me. I take one just before bedtime.
-
Think I'm going to get some Magnesium lotion to have on standby. Much as I like bananas, doubt I could munch enough to make a difference. ;)
-
I was very deficient in vit d and very low ferritin levels , jumpy legs now gone since dealt with.
-
The condition seems to vary then. Beware Magnesium by mouth ;)
-
CLKD - why do I need to be careful of magnesium by mouth? Is there a level that will work do you think?
-
Magnesium at bedtime, I find the fizzy soluble one works well.
-
It can act on the bowels JaneinPen ;)
-
What with everything else I don't want bowel issues too CLKD!!! How much do you take Cassie and have you been okay?
-
I had to stop a magnesium supplement as it did strange things to me, and not just my bowels. I suspect I didn't really need it and my body reacted to it.
Bananas work for me too. If I run out of them my legs take on a life of their own, especially at night :bunny:
-
How about dried banana to see if that would work?
-
Oh I used to love those dried banana chips until I chipped a tooth with one and set off my TMJ :(
-
:o ...........
-
it doesn't take much! :(
-
Think you can buy chewy ones babyjane, they might help.
-
Wouldn't those remove fillings ? :D
-
Probably, lose, lose no matter what. I love banana chips.
-
I use magnesium oil, which I just rub into my legs an hour before bed, seems to work.....
-
That's good, never thought to try that - will bear it in mind!

Lots of info and advice on this site https://rls-uk.org/ There are medications you can have if the syndrome is really getting you down. It's always worth getting your iron levels checked too as low iron can cause RLS

Thanks CLKD
I have just started getting restless legs again & you just reminded me that I have stopped eating bananas recently because I live in Spain they kept going off quickly. I must try & eat them again.

Do let us know how you get on? Also, pain relief 30 mins. B4 bed can help instead.
