Title: Feeling contunally hungry
Post by: CLKD on July 15, 2017, 02:32:15 PM
:-\.  for about 3 weeks now.  Until I eat my evening meal I am searching for food to satisfy my body.  My breakfast consists of blT with 2 sugars and a good quality muesli mix with a dash of milk.

10.30 T/2 sugars and a muesli bar or a banana or an egg custard

11.30 - lunch : ham salad or cooked pizza or cheese with biscuits and salad followed by a small piece of chocolate

several cuppas through-out the afternoon until a snack at 3.30.  I've been munching peas from from the pods or dried fruits and nuts or cereal bars.

Evening meal varies but is always filling: pasta with cooked mince mixed in; chicken and chips; steamed oven-cooked trout with spuds and green veg..

Since May I have been drinking more full-fat Coke as I don't drink tap water, tea bloats me by mid-afternoon ........

Any ideas as to how to bulk up?  I think I started a similar thread but can't find it  :-\

That's a lot of sugar clkd, think you posted before and many of us were advising to try to cut down the sugar in your tea gradually.  What about diluting juice as coke really isnt good for you. I think the sugar is the cause of your bloating.

More protein maybe, eggs rather than pizza for lunch?

I agree.
Much less sugar which also causes highs and lows in energy.
Coke is really not good. If it cleans saucepans really well think what it's doing to your insides.
Maybe more fresh fruit with your muesli. And something more sustaining for lunch.

 ;D ........  :thankyou:

I did start a thread B4 I think  :-\

I have a feeling it's the Coke .... I don't get sugar rushes and no longer get suddenly tired but I wonder if the excess sugars are making my body feel hungrier.

I've bought a mix of different juices to dilute ......

Have you checked your blood sugar ? as that's a lot of sugar during the day , ( honestly I don't have that in a month ) as your pancreas could be getting rather tired ? as sugar gives highs and lows and the more the body has the more the body wants , however I am very aware of your battles with food , and obviously eating / drinking is the most important thing.

My breakfast is HUGE , and luckily for me I hate coke.

I am off for a well woman check soon so will take a list of concerns ..... it's drinking that is my main problem when I feel well, as tea bloats me by mid-afternoon  ::)

Don't like the taste of tap water ......... it's the bubbles I like in Coke

Maybe you'd like sparkling water? We're so lucky here as the tap water is lovely so I mostly drink that. Maybe you could make soup and have that for lunches?

 :thankyou:

Soup bloats me  :-\ with or without rolls ....... I have today diluted juice with bottled, bubbly water.  It's OK-ish  ::)

Maybe you need to keep a mood/food diary for a while.  ;)

  I know what I eat - usually pretty much the same, day in/day out  ::) as I have 'safe' foods that I eat at set times.  It's my drinking pattern that is 'off' recently.

I was advised by a nutritionist that protein is needed at every meal, even a snack eg a few brazil nuts with a banana.

I must admit, when I have had a 'proper' lunch or dinner with good quality protein I don't even think about food until the next meal.  If I 'pick' all day I never feel satisfied  :-\

I'm stuffed now.  A slice of fried steak with freshly picked potatoes and broad beans  ;)

Maybe I do need more protein .........

Very probably. It's a case of balanced. But whatever you do cut down on all that sugar. Even just one teaspoonful in your cuppa to start with.

Not just overweight people are in danger of developing diabetes.

I add either fresh lemon / ginger / lime / mint to my water .

On waking have a pint of warm fresh grated ginger / or a half fresh lemon . Very good for getting the gut " juices" flowing , and has knocked my refux on the head. This is an hour before breakfast.

Have three meals a day and no snacking and don't get hungry , and walk 4 miles after breakfast, as I have protein at every meal. Sugar really is the enemy for our bodies, feel so much better with absolutely no refined sugar in my diet , my chocolate hit is natural yogurt with a teaspoon of cocoa powder in it , or a piece of 90% dark chocolate, I was a chocolate holic but went cold turkey, no cakes , biscuits , crisps etc , and feel very well .

I am not overweight and am reasonably fit but I am borderline for pre diabetes due to a strong family history (level of 40, cut off point is 42).  I have been advised to severely limit sugar in my diet or to even follow a diabetic diet to try and put off the inevitable (or even maybe prevent it).  Our diets do not need sugar in them (although hubby does like a slice of home made cake or a dessert, bless him).

However if I succumb, as often happens on a family occasion or event, I feel constantly hungry the next day as my body struggles to process the sugar

I agree with you on protein, can you give examples of what you have I am always stuck for ideas.

Definitely add more protein to your diet and reduce the sugar.

Protein keeps hunger at bay by causing the release of hormones that stop us feeling hungry (make us feel satiated) - that hormonally induced feeling lasts longer than the physical feeling of being full.

Zelda I basically eat the Mediterranean way ( no pasta / bread shop bought ) make our own organic bread rolls no bloat as no chemicals.

No meat gone off it completely as has hubby, eat fish , lots of pulses different types as they all offer different things , olive oil , eggs , chia seeds / pumpkin seeds / linseed seeds : almonds all ground into porridge with blueberries , whole pear with natural yogurt, homemade roll butter / honey and will be adding egg to breakfast also.

Love my meals now , and so do my guts all reflux gone.

I'm finding any meat increasingly difficult to digest.
If hubby and I fancy a steak I buy one small one and cut it in half. We are both more than satisfied with that. We are increasingly eating more fish and chicken. So much easier on the tummy I find.
I love beans and pulses and seeds. Unfortunately they just don't like me. I get so bloated after chick peas or kidney beans.
When I make Spag Bol or Chilli these days I'm inclined to use Quorn mince. My DD is not a big meat eater so I've  always got that in the freezer. By the time you put in the spices you really can't taste the difference at all.

The way we eat has changed such a lot recently.

I haven't been able to eat kidney beans for over 35 years ......... and loved chille con carne  :-\.  Cauliflower is out as it really gives me a lot of wind pain and I love that too; either with cheese over and baked under the grill or as a hot veg..

Well for 2 days I've not felt as hungry.  I had a meat-based pizza one lunch time and a steak the next evening although if I eat too much red meat in a week my bowel feels 'slow' and heavy.  I don't like fish much  ::) unless it's baked with lots of black pepper and lemon juice over it.

No Coke 2day  ;)

Tnx so much 4 asking.  For 3 days I've not had the 'hunger' "feed me now" feelings.  I've cut back on the bottles of coke and have upped my intake of fresh fruits: white currants : lots of peas straight from the pods ......... lots of dried fruits and nuts ....... plus proper grub!

watch this space ....... it'll be mince with veg/ginger/garlic stirred into hot pasta ......

Yep.

It isn't easy and it's almost as if, when I don't eat properly for a few days, that 'fill me up now' feeling persists once I fancy food.  I need to take myself in hand  ::)

Well done CLKD, you can become addicted to Coke...the drinking stuff I mean  ;D

My sister is discovering just how hard it is to start eating after having almost nothing for over two weeks now. Her mouth just doesn't seem to be working properly. Anything dry won't go down at all. She is drinking quite a bit of Complan so that is at least getting some nourishment in. She can manage sloppy stuff but nothing much else. Going to be a long job getting her sorted out.

Yes she is Hasty. I have banged on and on  ::)

She is eating a little. A quarter of a Wetabix this morning and a bowl of homemade soup at lunch. Complan for dinner.
I have told her to think of anything she fancies and I will come and cook it for her.

Just hard to get started again after so long. No wonder she is really weak

I don't like sparkling water unless it is mixed with something like orange juice. On its own it has a strange flavour. i drink tap water or lemon squash (diluted with tap water).

Would she be able to eat bananas? That was the only thing I could eat when I was really ill last year, I lost half a stone really quickly but put it back on eventually. Everyone always says eggs but I couldn't face that for ages. Oatcakes maybe? Hope she's feeling a bit better now, she's had a time of it.

I love scrambled eggs but have to be in the mood for them.
