Post by: CLKD on July 13, 2017, 10:40:33 PM
Eight miniature horses and foals stolen from March

one foal is 3 weeks old and un-weaned - the dam was left behind

What area? I am horrified that someone was stupid enough to get a foal away from its dam. Do you have descriptions of the horses. Are they tattooed or branded? Hate branding personally, much prefer the ear tattooing.

March, Cambridgeshire - on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire local BBC News for info..

Have you ever seen a horse/greyhound without an ear due to it being torn off prior to being dumped  :'( -to get rid of the tattoo?

I will alert friends in Cambridgeshire re the stolen horses. How many mares and perhaps a stallion.

Yes, I have seen 1 horse mutilated in this way.

Still share though  :-\ - these are specifically bred 'small' horses which until more recent years were particularly rare so hold a value.  The paperwork remains with the breeder so they won't be sold ligit!

I am relieved - shows that the Passport system doesn't work  :-\.  Movement Licences etc. are useless if animals go 'underground', fortunately in this instance the local Countryside Police were on the ball across East Anglia.  Some were found at a travellers' site  :sigh:

CLKD, thank you for keeping everyone informed about the horses. Thank goodness the foal is now suckling again.  Some people are just unable to keep their hands off what belongs to other people.  Poor horses.

....... poor owners.  They had to collect the last horse themselves as the Police were busy that particular weekend.  So the owners 'thieved' them back  ::), don't know if any prosecutions will take place.

see Cambridgeshire Times web-site

The owners must be so relieved to get every horse back.  Sounds like an organized theft, they must have known at least one is valuable, being a pali.  Like the owners actions though.  Whoever originally took them could hardly report them as being stolen, no proof of ownership etc.  Yes, good on the owners.  Ear tattooing works simply because it ain't easy to get rid of or disguise, and these little guys and gals probably have been done.  Thankfully all are well and safely back where they should be.  Any news of a pending prosecution of the thieves?

Oh ear tattoos are a waste of time, thieves cut them off - same with racing greyhounds and lurchers  :'(.  All horses and dogs have to be microchipped but that's got around by the chip not being registered with the Company ......... or details being updated on the appropriate chip site  :sigh: .........

Chips have been known to "go walkies" in an animal's body.  Placed in scruff area, found half way to stomach, proved by xray.  An injured cat was rushed into the vet, been hit by a vehicle.  Cat was scanned, no chip.  Cat was xrayed to ascertain extent of injuries, chip appeared.  Cat scanned, owner contacted.  One very relieved owner, despite the injuries, to know her beloved furry guy was safe if under medical care.  He got better due to good medical attention and, more importantly, the love of his Mum. Everyone in surgery gave him a gentle word and stroke.  All the way through everything, he purred for England! :cat48: :cat48:

Chips go walk-about regularly as pet owners have found when they try to get back to the UK from mainland Europe, to the point that some pets have gone into quarantine  :sigh:  :'(

Title: Horses - ' flu diagnosed: please share
Post by: CLKD on February 07, 2019, 06:21:32 PM
Equine 'flu affecting racing in parts of the UK - do keep an eye on your horses/ponies/donkeys air-ways!

Apparently it's unusual in race horses as they are vaccinated .........
Title: Equine Flu alert owners of Horses - please share
Post by: CLKD on February 11, 2019, 01:42:24 PM
Apparently a mare was raced last week.  At a Meeting where horses have since tested positive.

She has returned negative 'flu results however, a few horses in the stable have been infected.  Can't they see that horses, as can humans, carry the 'flu virus without showing any signs  :poke2:

Also, why are the owners allowing the worlds' press into their Yards  :-\ why not a total shut-down?

Several events across Wales have been cancelled as more horses test positive.  Do keep your animals under supervision and see if there are local guidelines etc..
