Anyone fed up with the style that they have.
I'm getting my hair cut in two weeks and I fancy something different but what.
I have grown out a shortish layered cut to a below the chin length bob.
It just sort of hangs there looking a bit bland and uninteresting.
How do you decide and any ideas welcome.
My daughter wants me to keep on growing into what she calls a lob...which is apparently a long bob ::)
I'm not sure whether that would be a bit aging for me or not and again it would just sort of hang there.

I've got a bob too which is shoulder length and think it looks better since I got a fringe. Also got a semi permanent colour now, which is a sort of plum colour I like. Loads of websites to give you ideas too. :)

I had a short cut at the start of the year because since my hair went thinner is never looked tidy and was terribly wispy and fly away. It needed loads of product and clips and grips to keep in looking half way decent.
Now I just wash it, let it dry by itself and give it a light spray and off I go. Had a lot of compliments on it too. At first I thought it was a bit mannish but now I like it and I am not always fussing over it and washing it every other day. I am quite happy with the grey in it as I don't want the commitment of keeping up a colour.
Good luck whatever you decide :)

Go to a salon that sells wigs and try several on? That's what I did in the 1980s B4 having my very long hair cut ....... and yes, I'm fed up with mine right now ........ I fancy a short crop over the top and long at the back?!?
-
Lots of ideas online. Think there's even one where you can add photo of your face, so you can "try on" styles.
-
Oh that's sounds a great idea, where?
-
Now you're asking, don't think I have the websites any more. Try doing search.

Found it. The Hairstyler.com

:thankyou:

Mine is presently two-thirds of the way to my waist. Could sit on it in a plait when I was in the RAF, loads of pins but it stayed in place and above my collar. Thought and getting it cut but it would just be too stressful.😤
-
I had a good hack at my fringe a couple of days ago ...... did a good job although I say so myself ;D
-
After cutting my daughters fringe really badly when she was little I decided I wasn't cut out to be a hairdresser ::)
I just couldn't manage really long hair. Do you not get overly hot ClarleM
-
Long hair is just natural to me. The RAF soon got us putting hair up very quickly and as per regulations! I worked in a section where I was the only girl. On nights there was always one bright spark who wanted to know just how long my hair was. Sitting down, it hit the floor. By 07.50 I had to have it back up. So I guess that putting my hair up keeps me cool. If my neck is hot I'm miserable, so off my neck is fine.
Stephen's never seen me with shorter hair and when I suggested getting it cut, he had 40 fits!
Most of my friends have had their hair cut and do ask me how I still manage it long.
-
Men seem to like women with long hair. My hubby hated me going short, but he wasn't the one trying to keep it tidy. Only way I could wear my hair long was by getting it permed. Not poodle, but a really casual perm which was great until hairdresser vanished. Every hairdresser after that assumed poodle was way to go. I refused & gradually shortened hair to Bob, then short.
-
before I went short I had to use lots of product and grips and pins so what's the point if you are always tying it up or clipping it back, no point in having it long ::)
-
I remember, as a teenager, having hairstyle just long enough to put in small pony tail. My mother was furious saying I looked awful. Went on holiday with friend & her parents & I put it in pony tail. Would have been fine if her dad hadn't taken photo of me. Mum saw photo & boom off she went again. Mind you my SIL then suggested I go to decent stylist in Glasgow. So ended up with gorgeous one length bob, which my mum approved of. Long hair came after we married & moved north.
-
ditto everything sparkle just said x
-
When I had a perm I looked like Crystal Tipps and Alaisdair ;D
-
My daughter has always had short hair, apart from perm at around 12 when she grew it a bit, but she didn't like it. Like me has fine hair, but has lots of it. Eldest granddaughter has such thick hair, she's had to have hers cut into short bob. She kept catching headlice off her friends. :sick02: Her sister also has thick hair & never caught any little friends. ;D So here's hoping I don't have to treat either of them when they come up in 3 weeks. DD says she hasn't any now. Poor GD has been subjected to "combing" on a regular basis.
-
My mother had my waist long hair cut when I was about 7.....and sold the hair :o
I was shorn and looked like a little boy, I don't think I ever forgave her for that.
I had loads of perms for years. I remember getting one done that went a wee bit wrong....far too curly.
I came home and my son who was about a year old took one look at me and cried ;D.
That was my last one.
I've gone from short to mid length lots of times but this is the longest I've had a bob.
I just hope I resist the urge to do the blue hair when I'm much much older. ::)

I had to have my hair up and above my collar when I was in the Forces. Off duty, it was loose. Now, if I am going somewhere format I do put it up, particularly if needing to wear a hat or fascinator, helps to keep the headwear in place and looks smarter. As soon as the informal part starts, then down it comes. I did wear it up for my graduation. I also use an organic colour. Cannot use chemical versions, but the organic variety works well for me.
-
I rarely use a hair-drier. When my hair was long I would dry it in front of the coal fire, kneeling down and flicking it up and over then a brush then turned around ......... now it's short I can rub a warmed towel over it, done!
-
When I look at old photos I realise I have the same hair cut I had as a child, shoulder length with a fringe ;D
-
Mine was cut by my mum as a child. Tried to chop my ear off once & she wondered why I screamed! Like a square bowl cut. ;D
-
Had mine done today.
3 hilights (blonde/honey/copper).
A slightly off centre parting.
Shoulder length bob.
Hopefully this will make me feel less like a menopausal woman when I go to my interview next week. ::) ::)
-
'Photos . ? ;D. Good Luck for next week!
-
Thanks - no photos CLKD, I'm too shy.
-
-
I use Daniel Field colours. No reaction so far. They are water based.
-
Apart from a blue rinse MrsB ;D, did you decide on a hairstyle?
My mum got a mink rinse once, OMG!
-
Growing up my sister & I had long hair down to just below the waist, we were never aloud to have it cut short. Eventually around our teenage years had it all cut off. I've had all sorts of hairstyles very short which never suited me, too a longish bob, but since I've lived in Yorkshire I first had it cut to a short below the chin bob, then 18 months ago I had it cut to chin jaw length keeping the bob, also had a fringe put in. Only downside my son calls me a watermelon head!! In my case as I get older a shorter style makes me look younger! It's definitely worth trying on-line hairstylist gives you a good idea.
-
Some ladies with long hair look older than they ought to .......... when 1 gets to a certain age, long hair doesn't do 1 any favours.
-
All depends on how long CLKD but I generally agree. When I had mine cut overly short my daughter called it a mushroom cut....I don't have it that way anymore ::)
I think I will stay with my chin length bob with maybe a few more layers.
I've never had a fringe as I have a cows lick and it never would lie flat ;D
-
I think no longer than collar bone length looks good on ladies our age. If my hair behaved itself I would go for this length but it doesn't so I don't and keep it short now so I am not always checking it in mirrors, shop windows etc ::)
There are the mavericks like Mary Beard who get away with it but, on the whole, I don't think so personally.
-
I'm inclined to agree BJ
I even get frustrated with chin length hair when it's wet and windy and I end up looking like a wild woman. ;D

Especially long grey.
-
we shouldn't judge but I agree dulciana - mine won't grow longer than my shoulders these days ......
-
Mine may be short, but still needs taming on a daily basis! ;D I don't rock a bed head. ::)
-
I used to look like a madwoman when I woke up in the mornings in the days of short hair. I've accepted it needs washing every day. If I get overly hot then it's the head that gets it. Not a good look.
-
Hasty ;D

Long hair has always suited me. I tried a friend's wig on once and went out passed the guard room. The copper on duty just took one look, then said something not altogether repeatable. The relief on his face when I took the wig off and shook out my hair. He didn't realize it, but he actually went pale when he saw me. That convinced me that short hair defo wasn't me. Years later, went back from Dorset via my former boarding school. My best friend there, the school principal by then, hauled out photos and we both commented on how long my hair was then. Stephen was quite surprised that Chinese dancer number 1 in the Nutcracker Suite had her own plait!
I think I am lucky to have quite a lot of natural colour left, but I do enjoy changing it sometimes. Always use water based colours though. Nothing nasty ends up on my head, if I can help it. It's not easy for any of us to decide what we want to do with our hair amongst other things.. Personally, the thought of a pink or blue rinse would have me running for the hills.

Just came across this and was glad I did ;) told DH yesterday I'm getting hair whacked off. Usually have a salon that uses aveda products to lighten and lengthwise inkeep it below the shoulder. Decided I wanted a perm like Rita Ora - short and curly ;D have I gone mad??? Grateful for the words of wisdom on this post. I'll try online hairdresser first :)

Years ago I had my hair permed and it was lovely, but it grew out and I couldn't afford to keep having it permed.
I'm 60+ and at long last growing my hair. When I was very little, I was allergic to my own hair! I had to have it very short. I had almost white hair then and was nicknamed baldy. Children can be so cruel. In my teens, I was able to grow it long, 2 long blonde curtains, until my Mum made me have it cut for my sisters wedding. Mum was a scary lady then! I very much hated her for that! In my 40s I grew it again, but I started what I know now was Rosecea and my hair seemed to make it worse and felt like it was attacking my face. Really uncomfortable, so it was chopped off again. Now, my hair and I seem to be friends, so I am growing it again. It's now long enough to tie back now. The advantage is that the weight calms it down. I had to wash it every day when it was short just to not look like a clown! Maybe it might not suit me, but I'm having my 2nd childhood! And it's still blonde and I only have to wash it twice a week now.

Maybe I should get that perm after all ;D - I read that you can get organic perms and they are much more natural looking. As my hair is thinning I thought it would help. Problem is I can't find a salon that does it :-\
