Title: Poo thread......sorry if TMI!
Post by: Justjules on July 04, 2017, 10:31:26 AM
Hi ladies, anxiety has been really good for a good while now and despite loads of stress, have coped really well. Anyhow, tummy a bit upset this week - lots of work related problems which looks like will culminate in me losing my job but this morning, totally freaked out because stools were loose but reddy brown with red bits in...doesn't look like fresh blood tho..... I'm trying to tell my self I've eaten too much red fruit i.e. Raspberries, strawberries and blueberries every day and had spaghetti bolognaise for tea the other night oh, and beetroot on salad last night....does actually look like spaghetti  bolognaise actually!  :-\ have no other symptoms apart from a but if backache as have been back and forward too loo a few times a day with the upset from work. Anyone had this? I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago, no probs. x

Beetroot, depending on how much you eat, can affect poo & wee. However, I'd give it a few days to see if it clears.

I rarely look!  but from what you say it's likely to be your current diet.  It can take hours for food to pass through the system, depending on what we have eaten ........ beetroot and asparagus are known for causing coloured poo/urine and can be a shock if 1 isn't used to that!

Stress + un-accostomed fruits can cause the bowel to let go.  Nowt is TMI by the way.  I've eaten lots of fruit from our garden, gazing as I wander round - so far after nearly a week there's been no result  :sigh:

Thanks....just had to 'run' again, quite dark now but still little red chunks .... mind is doing the 'what ifs' .....

Oh heck CLKD, I never have that problem!

A colonscopy is good for 5 yrs, very scary when this happens, happened to me with beetroot, you will be fine, lots of foods cause this to happen and beet is a prime one as is tomato bits in spaghetti bol.

Is there any pain or is it a rush, got to go now? .......... what's the time gap between each bowel movement?  If it's speedy it's more likely to be what you have eaten in the last 3-5 days ;-).

As a meander: what do you read in the bathroom?  I have crossword books so that I can relax  ::)

Hope so Cassie, but I 'examined' it (sorry!) and it was a bit mucosy too but the little bit did look like bits of beetroot maybe but not had that before so was a bit freaked.

Not so much as a rush CKLD but need to go soon as.....

Ha, never have time to just sit there, on and off for me!

Had the bowel tests a couple of Januarys ago. Bowels always on loose side and easily upset but it was just the colour and consistency that has worried me Ellie. Hopefully will settle.....

CKLD, you will end up with piles! Not good to sit too long on loo  ;D

Justjules, bit late to this but I'd definitely agree with the other ladies, beetroot, the cause of many a panic!! I pee red within 45 mins of eating it, every time, and poo red within hours. Hubby was laughing at me two nights ago remarking on what a super freak I am to have a digestive and urinary system that works that fast!! Doc brother says it causes many a scare!! x

I don't think it's that unusual at all especially if you have had a bit of an upset tummy. Things are inclined to move through faster....hence more visible bits.

We should all look no matter if we want to or not. How would you spot any changes if you are not familiar as to what is normal for you.
In some European countries toilets are designed to make it far easier to see. They have a small shelf then the water below.

Not that I'm a bit obsessed by my bowels  ;D

In France they have a vault system - one stands over a hole  :o  :-X

Not many of those left now CLKD, mainly on isolated rural motorway stops. My kids used to refuse point blank to use them and I'd rather wait until we reach a proper motorway service stop. Darn nasty they are!

when I was in France when I was 14 I used a bush rather than the hole in the ground (for a wee that is so I guess that doesn't count in this thread)  :)

I always check as I turn round to press the flush button  ::).

My 5 weeks of mysterious chronic constipation seems to be clearing up since I increased my thyroid meds a tad on the advice of my endo.  Only an extra 50mcg a week but it seems to be helping, I am not feeling so sluggish and cold either  :)

Real constipation is the pits, I wouldn't wish it on the person I like least in the whole world  >:(

As I said.....please check.

I think it was Taz who posted the poo chart.....what's good and what's not.

How do you figure outs what's normal if you don't look.

My BIL lives in Bonn. He visited us a couple of years ago. He had had bowel polyps removed. He was so open about it. Hubby cringed regularly as he thought it was TMI. My SIL explained how open the Germans are with this kind of thing. They have lived in Germany for nearly 30 years.
Although I was not happy with the detail I admired the honesty and lack of embarrassment.

Maybe us Brits need to think and talk about this kind of thing more openly.

On the whole brits over a certain age aren't comfortable talking about any bodily functions.  We were brought up by parents who were raised  not to talk about such things.  Our children and grandchildren seem less inhibited.  I make my daughter listen to my meno tales and bowel advice as she has IBS herself. Hopefully she will be less clueless than I have been as a result of my repressed childhood where I was smacked for saying 'poo'. Our daughter in law has Crohn's disease quite badly so our grandchildren have grown up with poo and bowel issues being spoken of openly.

I've always found it interesting that vomiting can be discussed quite openly yet anything related to poo / bowels is taboo unless you're a dog owner! Then poo becomes a widely discussed subject.

...... doesn't it just - like checking a baby's nappy, checking the morning dog poo became routine: it told me exactly how her health was!

True  ;D

Seems to have settled a bit today phew....achey back and tummy low down but think it's stress-related and the wrong food...

I'm having to keep poo chart, showing date, time, consistency according to the Bristol stool chart, etc. Makes interesting reading, not.  ;D

Actually we should talk more about bowel issues. Then we would have a better idea of what is ok and when to seek advice.

And when you have any bowel condition it helps to know you are not alone. I haven't had a lot of support during the 50 years of IBS, partly because not enough is known and because it isn't sinister. The best support is from fellow sufferers. In latter years I have been upfront with my family about what is going on and if it affects my activities outside of home I feel I can say I have IBS issues. There is greater understanding now and I feel I don't have to hide it or feel I am being judged. (My mum used to insist I was emotionally unstable. My problem not caused by her of course.)

Take care all.

Eat less fruit or eat less  ;D - how can it be 'good' for me if it sent me to the loo and then I felt so ill  :-\

Because you ate too much at the one time probably. Start off slow and build it up.

I have IBS and I have to be very careful. Three times in 40 mins would be my ideal day. More like three times in ten mins some days.

Sift fruits like strawberries and raspberries are easy on the tummy as they don't have the hard skins that are difficult to digest and too bulky.

Ah well there you go, it's grazing on raspberries and white currants around our garden that I've been doing  ;) as well as eating freshly podded peas ..........

have had bowel problems for a few years now( when i need to go I need to go now) no time to wait. had operation seven weeks ago to repair sphincter muscle and vaginal wall as doc hoped this would help at least give me more time, but no such luck :-\. was back at hospital for check up on wednesday and as far as surgeon is concerned he has done all he can, told me to go on no fibre diet, ie no weetabix, brown bread etc but I explained to him that I am diabetic and last time i tried this my sugars were raised. I can't win  :-\. so it's either high sugars or running to the loo

Yammy1 - If you contact one of the Charities, it may be the Chrons' group, you can have a card to show ladies in public loos stating that you need to go now!  Do your bowels open at a 'regular' time so that once you've been that's *it* for the day or do they catch you out?  Has the Surgeon offered a Specific Nurse to talk with, also there may be specific pads which could be free on the NHS.  If you don't ask you don't get ;-).

Do you have a diabetic nurse for support?     :bighug:

Mine rarely feel empty ...... though having jumped out of bed this morning and sitting for 20 mins. whilst my bowel got going, they actually felt less 'heavy' if that makes sense?

I'm a lot better thanks CLKD....still loose and have to rush but only maybe once or twice a day now. Just still had a lot of backache though but have been gardening and decorating.   I was suspended from work last week! Long story, which I've posted about before but the girl I've had the problem with tried to give her notice in and so they suspended me. Now they've put a title of bulllying and harassment in, which really upset me, so now I've put in a counter grievance.  It's all a plan to get rid if me but a bully I'm certainly not, so I'll fight it all the way so expecting the old bowels to complain fit a while yet!!!  ::)

Crikey, is there no Union?  I would either walk was [was in a similar situation which almost cost me my marriage] or seek advice from a Solicitor but anything that upsets my gut makes it impossible for me to function.

Back to this morning: beets passed  ;D - apparently.

The nausea lasts 20-40 mins. sometimes I need to sit quietly until it eases.  It can either go or causes high anxiety  :'(

Still looking Sparkle but on hold due to this situation.

CKLD, ha, they are all lawyers! I was prepared to walk away but when they hit me with the bullying charge I had to fight back!

I sometimes get the sickly feeling just before I need the loo and sometimes I get the feeling aftter so don't think you're on your own CLKD.
