Title: Evorel conti another question
Post by: Sarai on June 23, 2017, 10:19:53 PM
I've just finished 3 months of Evorel conti 50, now I have what can only be described as really dirty discharge or old blood, sorry TMI.
Now the packet leaflet mentions bleeding or discharge for a few months but what's a few?
I was 14 months no period before going on it. My mind says maybe it's old stuff left behind but would it just sit there for so long?
My mind of course is panicking yet surely I can't have got cancer from it in just 3 packets.
I don't know what to think really.

Hi Sarai - please don't be scared - some posts unfortunately get missed - and this section isn't read as much as the All Things menopause board. I don't often come here especially when busy. It's only because it's raining that I have spent longer on the forum today - so no gardening! I was away for a few days last week with family, and also busy with family at the weekend and busy earlier this week too! It's that time of year!

You really shouldn't worry about a bit of spotting during the first 6 months of using this patch. After some time with no periods you body is still adjusting to having oestrogen (and progestogen) continuously. Unless there is a particular reason to be worried - persistent pains or other things that might concern you, give it another 3 months and hope it settles. You certainly would not get cancer in 3 months. There is a very long process to get endometrial cancer - the lining can overthicken ( which takes  some time depending on the oestrogen dose) and then sometimes this can lead to endometrial hyperplasia. There are several different types of this and only one or two of them may be a precursor to cancer - do have a read about it and you should be re-assured. Nevertheless one should never become complacent and always be vigilant about abnormal bleeding.

I hope you are feeling better!

Thanks Hurdity, I don't have real grounds for worry except I worry. The bleeding seems like old stuff so not much and certainly manageable. But it's just the leaflet is ambiguous saying first few months. Ironically my GP asked me after just a few weeks and luckily I hadn't then do didnt lie. He didn't want me on hrt but bisphosphonates so I'm sure he would like reason to get me off it.
I have been lucky symptom ease both meno and hrt and it's a damn nuisance that I get this as I want to be on it for the long haul if I can.
