Hi
Also posting here as I'm hoping for some responses...
I am in the third week of a big hair shedding on the mirena. I've had the mirena in for 6 months. I've had hair shedding before - a few years ago - but not since. I'm taking ferrous fumerate 3 x a day with Vit C and lysine.
I've tried to stay calm, give it a month or 6 weeks while I wonder what I do, or see if it calms down, but today about 50 hairs came out when I took my hair out of its band.
Can anyone else tell me about their experiences with mirena and hair loss?
THanks a lot

None for me, is it a known side effect then?
I just googled hair shedding and the amount you are losing looks normal.
Are you anaemic?

That's 50 hairs in one go - not across the whole day. I'd be delighted if it was across the day!

I do think it's a side effect of that progestin, although the Mirena isn't supposed to go through the body nits one of the reasons I won't have it as I'm scared of that. I happens to me if my hormones are jot completely balanced so it may not all be the Mirena. I'm struggling with Utrogestan at the moment and I'm having more hair loss. I found the progestin, gestodene, that's in the Femodene pill the best for my hair. I'm not sure if it's available for HRT.

I haven't experienced this with Mirena, but my daughter was on a progesterone only pill until recently and she was definitely going thin on top. Doc switched her to combined pill and it seems to have reversed the effect. Talk to your GP. Don't suffer.
