My friend is in peri and has bad migraines and has been told she can't take HRT due to her migraines?

Hello! I have frequent migraine with aura and I have been prescribed patches. Not had any kind of headache including migraine since I started them ...which in fairness is only a month but I usually would have a couple of headaches in that time. Maybe my migraines were caused by fluctuating hormones rather than the hormones themselves...who knows?!

Thanks for previous messages I saw the doc yesterday who talked about HRT and the coil I'm still thinking about what to do The symptoms which bother me the most are irritability, anxiety, headaches and tiredness Thete seems to be so many diff types it's a mine field Any suggestions? X

The migraine association recommends patches are best if a sufferer is going to use HRT. I am a migraine sufferer with aura and am on patches and the migraines are decreasing in severity. Best of luck, worth a try.

How far post-menopausal are you? I agree with the others that a patch HRT is recommended for migraine sufferers. Some women get headaches because of oestrogen deficiency whereas others get them due to hormonal fluctuations. You will know which yours are and if you are post-meno then they could well be due to low oestrogen. Some of the synthetic progestogens cause headaches in some women - but others are fine. It's a question of trying something and seeing how you get on. Look at all the different types for peri and post menopause in the tip treatments tab. If you want to minimise progestogens exposure then a cyclical HRT is preferred but then you would have to have a withdrawal bleed. if you have a coil fitted then oestrogen is easy - you could choose patch or gel to go alongside and then adjust the dose to suit you.
Good luck and let us know what you decide :)
