Title: Mirena coil and tiredness
Post by: Noheroicsplease on May 14, 2017, 03:43:37 PM
I have searched and waded through lots of posts about the mirena coil but haven't quite found what I need.

I'm having a big HRT dilemma over lots of things. But I've found, in the past 10 days especially, since the bleeding finally stopped (4 months in) that I am soooo tired. Horribly so.

Is this something others experience?

Hi Noheroicsplease

As you have been bleeding for so long have you been checked out for anaemia?  I had heavy prolonged periods for 18 months when I became peri menopausal which left me anaemic.  A course of iron tablets sorted it out.  Glad your mirena seems to be finally settling btw x

I agree it could be anemia, I have one and didn't bleed to much and have been anemic on and off for the past few years. With and without Mirena.

The cause isn't known.

Even if you're not anaemic,  ferritin levels are likely to be low so definitely worth getting tested. NHS happy with levels of 15 but best to be over 50, this is the level I feel best at anyway

Hello, thanks all.

My iron levels are fine, but my ferritin levels are about 15. I know from previous experience - my hair started shedding horribly - that this is low - but I've been taking ferrous fumerate for a while now.

Noberiocsplease  - you have a very busy lifestyle - maybe a bit more relaxation is in order to get you back in track. It's so easy to overdo things when you have young children. DG x

Sorry I can't comment on the Mirena but if you have no vitamin or mineral deficiencies then hormonal explanations for tiredness can be - low oestrogen, low testosterone, and/or the effect of the progestogen. I think you are on a low oestrogen dose? Lifestyle is of course important too! :)
