How about Scotland's smallest island with a Cathedral

The Island of Cumbrae.....it has the most beautiful tiny cathedral.

There is a retreat there to.

I'm very clearly totally dim. Are we listing Cathedrals we've seen or we'd like to see? In the UK and outside the UK?

I'm hankering after a holiday in Scotland Mrs B. we have such a large Scottish membership, I shall have to pick your brains! x

Aberdeen has beautiful cathedral, St Machar! Inverness has a lovely cathedral too, in fact it was right opposite my office when I worked there.
Glasgow cathedral is stunning!
Elgin has a cathedral, well what's left of it that is. Used to be able to wander the grounds, now charge you for the privilege!
As for holidays ER, yep Mrs B is right, we'll keep you on the straight & narrow. 😂😂😂 :drunk:

Can't wait cubagirl, I wouldn't expect anything less!

I still don't know what this thread is about. Cathedral cities we've seen, would like to see, cities that have cathedrals? Where's CLKD when you need her? 👀

clear as mud to me still  ::)

I remember visiting St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh when I was 16 and feeling disappointed as it had no atmosphere.  It had a gift shop, book shop and cafe in it  :(

Actually, towards the end of the 20th century, the cathedral underwent a major renewal programme, which left the interior looking much lighter.  And in 1992, St. Giles acquired a fantastic Rieger pipe organ that attracts top international players.
It also looks amazing -  http://www.harrisonorgans.com/recitals/st-giles-cathedral/
I'd recommend a re-visit!

I remember that years ago a city had to have a cathedral, otherwise it was a town. Is that still the case?

I don't know as some towns have requested being made a City i.e. Milton Keynes but have been turned down but I can't remember why.

Abbeys are the other historical buildings that I enjoy visiting.
