Title: Urinary Symptoms
Post by: margaret on March 19, 2017, 04:17:53 PM
Hi Ladies,

I've been using Estring for the past 6 months but every now and then I get a feeling  of wanting to go for a wee, can anyone advise me on what I should do.

Thanks x

Maybe you require something more direct, i.e. Vagifem or Ovestin

I'm not being funny but this sounds like a normal feeling when your bladder needs emptying so I would just go and spend a penny  :).

However if your bladder is not full and you do not pass urine then lack of oestrogen not only dries the vagina but also the urethra and it can be the discomfort from this that makes you feel like you need a wee.  I get round this by using estriol cream externally in addition to vagifem internally.

CLKD, an Estring is direct. It is a ring impregnated with oestrogen and leaks out gently for three months. No less direct than a cream or a pessary.  :)

That's possible, yes. They are supposed to last 3 months but sometimes don't.

Margaret are you there  :D - perhaps you need a boost of oestrogen?

Hi yes I'm here, I started getting water infections last year and they went on for at least 5 months until the Nurse Practitioner at the doctors said I had Vaginal Atrophy, she gave me Vagifem at first but I was still not great with that so I tried the Estring and things started to settle down.  However I've noticed I'm getting more night sweats again and I'm crying at the drop of a hat, I started the Menopause at 52 and I'm now 57 and thought everything would have settled down by now, I bought some dip sticks so I could test my urine myself so I know it's not an infection but I still feel like I need to go for a wee at least 10 times a day, do you think I should go back to the docs?  It's making me feel a bit miserable.

 :( `x

Oh it can make us feel right miserable  :-\

Urine samples should always be sent to a Lab. for growing, a dip stick test doesn't show much ........ it might show 'bugs' but there are good and bad, in the Lab. they are checked and the appropriate anti-biotic prescribed when necessary.  I found that taking Nurofen when my bladder feels irritated useful as well as using my Ovestin1mg more often, sometimes twice a day i.e. noon and again at night.  Then every night for 3-4 then as B4.  It's a bit Trial and Error!  Do you have any Vagifem, perhaps use that to see if symptoms ease?

You could ring your Practice Nurse or pop into a Pharmacy if it's quicker as they have Private Rooms now.

I went to see a specialist physiotherapist who gave me particular exercises to do and lots of advice.  It was a big help.  You could ask your doctor for a referral.
