Hi ladies
I noticed on a discussion here that somebody had recommended a menopause specialist. I live in the South West of England. Any recommendations?
-
Can I also ask on this thread if anyone has seen Dr Louise Newson or Julie Ayres? Xx
-
I saw Julie Ayres. She was nice enough but not very enlightened and did not believe in testosterone therapy for women. I informed her I'd already been prescribed it on the nhs which didn't go down well. To be honest I got the best possible regime from educating myself via this forum and advocating for myself with my GP who was open to this.

Thank you.
So desperate to see someone who understands and can help alleviate my symptoms.
I'm surprised that Louise Newson isn't mentioned anywhere on this site given as she does seem to be good. Would be interested to know if anyone has seen her.
Michelle46 sorry for jumping on this post. I'm sure someone will be able to recommend someone in the SW although there does generally seem to be a desperate shortage of menopause specialists.
Good luck and hope you can find someone who helps xx

I can highly recommend Dr Anne Henderson extremely thorough , best of the ones I've seen .
London and Kent . Worth a visit I feel. No others who didn't rate Dr Ayres.

Thankyou ladies. If anyone knows of one in the South West of England or close by could you let me know please. I live in Devon.

This is not in the south west unfortunately but Kathy Abernathy in Worcester Park is very good - would it be worth coming to London for a day and seeing Professor Studd? He is well recommended by lots of ladies here - he can maybe advise and start you off and then you can get follow ups with your GP if what he suggests works?

Hi Michelle46
There are plenty of specialists about - no need to go to London and pay exhorbitant prices ::) although obvs Studd is eminent! There are others though. If you look at the top menu you will see Specialists in grey - click on that and then on SW England and there you have some listed.

This link may take you straight to SW England:

I have heard good reports of Dr Sarah Grey in Plymouth; Dr Annie Evans has retired and I think no longer takes consultations.
What are you particularly wanting to see a specialist about - I mean have you tried your GP and got nowhere? You can get referrals on NHS but waiting times are much longer.
Also I will pm you!

I have seen Dr Louise Newson and she was really great. Very knowledgable and understanding. She has a clinic in Solihull on Fridays. I know that some women have travelled from all over the country to come and see her. Definitely recommended and spends time talking through your symptoms and providing helpful solutions.

If you are prepared to pay and travel for your holiday why not for your health, if possible combine the two!
