Title: Why doesn't somebody invent.......
Post by: dulciana on February 10, 2017, 10:30:06 AM
....something for menopausal ladies like the cat-calming pheromonal plug-in room diffuser, "Feliway"?   It could be lavender-oil-based (which, I think I read somewhere here, has eostrogenic properties  :)) and would be just the thing to deal with meno anxiety.   I'd certainly use one!   Probably have one in every room - and in the car, too   ;D

I have some lavender kitchen cleaner  ::)

(I do like a mix of lavender and chamomile for a soothing bath.  Chamomile is very expensive and smells funny, but I have grown to love it  :D )

I keep meaning to buy one of these diffusers, as I love lavender - and lemongrass ... will see if it is reviewed on Amazon:

It can be used with your favourite essential oil.

Here's another - this company sells the oils too:

the wicks have to be changed every so often.

I grew a camomile lawn years ago, one of my more expensive ideas  :o.  The cats hated the smell so when I wanted to escape from them I would sit in the middle  ;D. I didn't like the smell either  ::)

Oh good!  Thanks Night_Owl!  I'm going to get one....or two....or.... :)

......and in the meantime, I'll totally rely on my pack of little lavender bags.  I've got one beside my bed, one in my bag, one in the lounge, one in the car..........I swear they've made a difference to my anxiety over the past couple of days.

Do you grow, pick and make the lavender bags yourself?

It will grow in pots .......... doesn't need much watering, in sandy soil lavenders will do OK indoors.  Watering every couple of weeks stood in the bath/shower and given a Very Good Soak, drain then stand pot in a saucer.  The plants may not last as long as those grown outside but I have been successful with that as well as rosemary.

Make sure you get a small flowery one like Hidcote.

I kept buying one called Vera, and she was a bit big - even in the garden.  :-\

All lavenders flower - I will keep an eye out for 'Vera' ........ I think that they flower throughout the Summer depending on which variety.

Some flower more than others  ;) I have had some that are a bit sparse.  Hidcote is a good one, and I think Munstead.  Most of mine are a variation of these (they seed themselves in the gravel paths  :) and I dig them up and keep them for when the others flake out).

Vera was about 3 ft tall and over 4 ft wide, if not more.  I didn't read the label and had no idea lavenders could get so big!

I haven't had any success with self seeding of lavenders  :-\.
Our rosemary plant grew and grew and  :o

....... someone invent a self cleaning oven that really does, self clean  >:(

If you shake the dead flower heads over a seed tray with a little compost mixed with sand and a cover of grit, then put them somewhere safe - I left mine outside the greenhouse for a few months  ::).  They do not like to get too wet - just slightly damp is plenty, so in the greenhouse if you do not live in the arid wastes of east Anglia.

I used to have a self cleaning gas oven but had to clean the glass door.  My latest fancy self-cleaning one is far from it  :steamed: and I really hate cleaning ovens.  In fact to get the door properly clean it needs dismantling  :angryfire:

My grandma used to smear the inside of hers with a paste of bicarb and water after she cleaned it.  It looks awful, but the brown stuff just wipes off next time you clean it.  I do that too, but I still can't summon up the will to clean it.

Summer slippers.

I don't really want to wear my heavy winter slippers during the summer.  I search every year for footwear that is light, comfortable and I can wear indoors and in the garden.  Have tried those ballet type ones but as I have a very high instep they don't really work.

Any ideas??

Canvas shoes? They're lightweight with proper soles so you can go outside. Plenty available cheaply in most shoe shops. I've seen some lovely floral ones.
