So trying evorol patches . two 100mg put on as per meno clinic instructions on monday night. One ripped off this morning as I am so anxious and angry crying and terrible muscle pains. Pharmacist who filled my script said 100mg ie one patch is the highest he jas ever seen prescribed. I explained It is supposed to shut down my own cycle. I feel terrible. IM done this is the seventh attempt even the consultant has given up. is anyone else on these patches I still have to take progesterone for 7 days every other month for period. SO close to giving up completely. ITs the pain and mood. ANd zero memory

Oh my that is a high dosage, but your consultant must know what they are doing. I couldn't cope on 50mg estradot. I felt awful. But we are all very different. Did they explain the side effects to you?
-
Tinkerbellj - I know exactly what you're going through. I've tried and tried with transdermal and at one point used 6 pumps gel with an E reading of 86pmol. Tempest and me KNOW that some women just don't absorb well transdermally. My consultant refuses to believe I'm not absorbing even with such a low reading! He's now suggesting implants which I'm seriously considering. I think I'm slightly better with gel than patches as the patches seem to work for 24/48 hours then stop. They give me terrible low back ache, still have night sweats and occasional day sweats and foggy head/no memory/low mood with them. I'm pouring this gel into me and still symptomatic. It's so frustrating as I don't want to take tablets. I know how you're feeling. Have you tried implants?

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. haven't heard of implants. Consultant was very dismissive to me tbh she said I dont know what else to do with u. I was on four pumps of gel and reading was 544 so I am absorbing but the oly thing I get is no sweating. EVeryrhing else is there including my personality has completely changed I am so grumpy and angry and sad. two years down the line and no further on. thinking now wjats the point. I am going to have to give up my job and I really cant affort to

I completely understand what you mean. I actually had to close a small beauty business I had as I didn't have the energy, focus, memory or mood to run it properly. My joints were so sore I couldn't do the job properly and that was on 4 pumps. Are you in Edinburgh? Your consultant sounds a bit like mine! There's also Tibolone? Don't know your circumstances or where you are in meno, I think it's only for post meno ladies, but could be wrong / don't know anything for certain at the moment! It's possibly an option for you. There's a thread going at the moment on here you could have a look at that?

Oh I wish I was in Edinburgh I love it but no I am in Belfast. I tried to go private for a consultant. .....it was the same the same one we dont have a lot of choice here unfortunately. I am peri. I went straight from pregnancy to what my gp called menopause but I now know is peri. pure hell. I honestly think I need a little progesterone every d a y but tried the pill and it was rough too and apparently the doc doesnt know how else I can get it any othet way. so tempted to say specialist my a@s*!
-
Have you tried Utrogestan- its micronised progesterone which is identical to our own. The progestins in bcp are synthetic and can be troublesome for some women (me defo!). What have you tried in terms of HRT?

Has anyone mentioned shutting down your own cycle with injections like donnacrichton does, and then adding add back estrogen? This is far more 'predictable' as you don't have your own cycle surging away and breaking through. So sorry you're still suffering, Tink..... :'(

Sorry to hear you're having trouble Tinkerbellj
Just popped into say that having tried a few patches, I found Evorel to be the worst at sticking! Lucky to get them to stay put for more than 24 hours. Have you tried out any others?
Hope you can get things sorted soon :)

Thanks again ladies for taking the time to reply. Cubagirl no one ever explains anything. I was literally told go and read the menopause matters we b site. Without which I would be completely lost btw!.
Imolants never mentioned. nor was shutting everything down. I even asked for a hysterectomy amd was told that would solve nothing.
I had to take the dose down to one patch and now I have a horrendous headache so I honestly think I am going to stop evorel and go back to the gel. yes I use utrogesterone every other month 200mg vaginally for 7 days. but I usually have a period every month without it anyway.
Seriously thinking of going back to looking for natural solutions. Oh and I am vomiting everymorning. has started at night as well. feels very like when I was pregnant. permanent nausea. Gross. fed up.thank u all so much for advice and support. Will suggest some stuff to consultant but thats 6 months away and she literally rolls her eyes every time

Hi Tinkerbellj - you may just be a little too high with 2 patches? How are you feeling on 1?
Mx
-
two patches is massive!
you should have started on a low to medium dose (37.5 - 50) and titrated slowly up!
Tinkerbellj
I can't believe you were given that dose and just left to get on with it. I went through something similar last year after seeing the team at Chelsea and Westminster they put me on 75 and I just freaked out was so depressed wanted to top myself.. I tried for a few weeks then gave up (jacked my job in at the same time felt so bad).. went off completely and now am on the lowest possible dose (25 once a week patch) and feel ok, in fact much better!
I think some of us just cant' tolerate these high levels.. I have had a total Hysterectomy and BSO by the way
Hope you are getting on better...
Shout if you need anything!

Hi Tinkerbellj
I think we have spoken before months ago about the oestrogel. I remember your story of going from pregnancy to peri just like me.
I just picked up on a couple of things from your posts, you mentioned you may like a bit of progesterone every day, so how about Mirena?
Also you mentioned the pill.....how many different ones did you try? Qlaria mimcs a natural cycle and has bio identical Oestrogen whereas Zoely has a flat level of both bio identical oestrogen and synthetic progesterone. Both of the above would override your cycle.
-
Abbyh . Exactly how I feel .. was on 4 pumps of oestrogen. THe inly thing hrt does for me is stop the flushes and takes away a dry numb patch on my face. it jas done nothing for mood or pain. I dont recognise myself at all.
Miss71mum. hi x I did have mirena fir 8 months. I cramped the whole time and felt terrible. I tried zoely and had to stop after two weeks because of the terrible headaches and sickness. the consultant said two patches would override everything. but I am down to one as I had the most horrendous migraine. and I habe ovulated right on cue and have very slight spotting. I guess even the two didnt suppress anything. no wonder tge consultant rolled her eyes. Its obvious she thinks im a freak and didnt even try to hide her thoughts. She made me feel like a complete nut job.i am thinking of.cutting the patch in half next week so that would be 50.
-
Hi tinkerbellj,
Wow, you're having an awful time but that dosage of estrogen is huge! I'm not surprised you're feeling bad.
They put me straight on 4 pumps of estrogel and I was fine for 1 week and then all hell broke lose. I had anxiety through the roof. Manic insomnia. It was a living nightmare.
I'm now on 50mcg patch of EVOREL and coping...just.
Why are they trying to shut your cycle down? Can they not block and replace?
-
Joesmum hi x no one even.mentioned shuttng down and replacing.although I asked for a hysterectomy and she just laughed. Apparently I still am still peri. but even the pill . didn't help. I have been on 100mg evorel for 4 days. flushing a bit but not sleeping and the joint pain is off the scale. gp just throws pain killers at me which dont work and wreck my stomach. just feel.no one cares. MY consultant couldn't get me out quick enough just because im not routine or straight forward.
-
Hi Tinkerbellj,
So sorry to hear you are still having problems :-( It's so hard to know what to do isn't it I am considering coming off the evorel too but scared I am going to have a major crash - fatigue and pain as it has helped these a bit. I am very scared of doing anything too invasive anymore that I can't immediately stop or increase/decrease - just 2 months on Zoely seems to have screwed things up any more. I came off it 3 months ago and am now having horrifically heavy periods :-(

HI there all
These experiences sound frighteningly familiar. On higher (ie 50 and 75) doses of the patch I was unrecognisable, a sobbing, anxious, insomniac basket case. I quit my job and just freaked out
On the lowest poss dose (25) I I feel 'ok' and have also upped my thyroid medication to 3 grains (Nature-throid)
I want to try Tibolone, but am having problems getting to see my GP and get a prescription, because I've seen a consultant and a menopause clinic she wants to go through them, and they are telling me 8 - 20 week waiting lists
