Title: Bleeding

i am 3 years post menopause. I have suffered from vaginal dryness and have just used Replens, when I removed the syringe there was a tiny smear of blood on it, should I be concerned

I probably should add that I have sciatica at present and have been taking prescription co codamol and methocarbamol so I don't know if either of these could cause it. It is very slight and not "coming"out" putting it crudely, and would appear to be very far up, very red blood and just the tiniest bit but not had any of this before, then again maybe I just haven't noticed

Hi Weejeanie

Are you on HRT or any form of vaginal oestrogen?

Especially if you are not, then any unscheduled bleeding or spotting should be reported to the doctor to be checked out just to be on the safe side.

If you are taking HRT then some spotting can be expected sometimes but not usually once it has settled.

If you are not using vaginal oestrogen then it could well be that your vaginal tissues have thinned to the extent that they are so fragile that the slightest trauma is causing the damage and bleed.

I would suggest you go to the doctor anyway and get appropriate treatment. Here is the information on this website about vaginal problems and treatments:

Vaginal atrophy can present itself several years after menopause when oestrogen levels drop to their lowest and will not get better on its own and moisturisers will no longer work on their own - local oestrogen will need to be taken for life.

Some of us take HRT as well as using local oestrogen just to keep things comfortable down there - and some women need to use moisturisers in between times too.

Do ask anything else and please go to your doctor!

Hi, no I am not on any type of Hrt. I will check out the articles and will get checked. I do feel very dry and a tiny bit sore so perhaps it was the applicator itself which caused it, as I said, it was a tiny smear.

You definitely would benefit from local oestrogen! Read up about it and make an appointment with the doc asap and you will reap the benefits :)
