Has anyone noticed whether spicy foods eg curry, tomatoes, tomato soup can trigger VA? I have been eating a lot of tomatoes lately and soup. Might be barking up the wrong tree. Just curious really. VA bad today, after 6 good months. Hopefully the vagifem re load will help.
Don't want another bout of Atrophy. I do appreciate every ones replies, this is a wonderful forum and so informative.

It can irritate some yes it's to do with the alkaline / acidity/ph levels of your P that then irritates the area.
-
Too much acidity will make the burning worse, if it's urethral burning - simply avoid anything that will make your urine more acidic. I don't have a problem with tomatoes but I certainly can't have too much spice or fruit juices.
Using Sylk or other vaginal moisturisers really helps the VA and burning. DG x

Hi Midnight Shadow
Sorry to hear your having VA problems - as a long sufferer of this awful affliction I'm ultra careful what I eat. It's a no no to spicy things - drinks like pineapple juice and orange juice basically anything acidic has a detrimental effect on me, so I do without them.
Although I do have curry and it seems to sit ok with me, so maybe it's different for everybody
I have a 'blip' going on presently and was wracking my brains to think if I ate anything - I did have figs - so even they could be added to a ' bad' list but it's really trial and error
Also be cautious about what you use lon your body - I don't bathe but shower and watch for creams and things high in perfume
Hope this helps

Sometimes the area stings when passing urine but I have never thought about why. I up my fluid intake accordingly.
We eat a lot of curries and other spicy foods, i.e. chutneys.

Thanks for your replies, you are all so knowledgeable. I do think my P may have been very acidic today I have been going much more, that's when the burning starts. Interesting that I had tomato soup on Saturday, burnt all day Sunday. Monday was fine all day and then had tomato soup for tea and have burnt all day today. Might just be coincidence. I'll see what tomorrow brings, can do without it as I am taking my sister out for a birthday treat. Have been using the sylk which was recommended. It is very soothing, also use Acti gel as someone mentioned on here. Thought I might come off my low dose Kliovance HRT as it was only meant for a short term use. Might change my mind and stay on it a little longer as only been on it since middle of March 2016. Thanks again for replies.

When I drink soup I often don't drink as much that day. Soup bloats me …….. and I certainly can't manage a soup as well as a cuppa ::)
-
Great info from the others - just to clarify, the foods won't trigger VA as such - which is caused by low oestrogen, but as has been said - foods affect the urine which can cause irritation. So - whether or not you do a re-load with vagifem - these foods may still cause you discomfort. If you come off the systemic HRT you may well experience a worsening of VA, since although local oestrogen is the best for treating VA, the HRT is helping to keep your oestrogen levels higher overall.

Tomato soup is often heavily flavoured with pepper and other spices so is likely to make the urine very acidic. DG x

Thanks for all your replies. Don't know where we would all be without this site. No more spicy foods for me. Had a much better day today, enjoyed my sisters birthday shopping spree. Thought I was building up to a burny day, but fortunately it subsided. Since being home I am a bit stingy so have used some vagisil which is very soothing and some sylk. Does anyone else finds it smarts in the urethral area? I also love my soaks in the bath where I use dead sea salt. This was recommended by an assistant in Holland and Barrett. I never use shower gel in the bath or on my outer parts. Hopefully everything will calm doing in that area now. Fingers crossed. Hope you have all had a better day.
-
Why Dead Sea salt :-\ - salt is salt ::). My Grandma swore by a handful of salt in a hot bath to ease aches and pains. Mustard foot baths ……
We eat a lot of curry. But that isn't to say our meals are spicy. I think my problem is not drinking regularly enough.
-
Thanks for reply. Quite agree, I probably do not drink enough. I definitely need to drink more water especially as I have three kidneys. Strict regime from now on. ;) ;) ;) :)
-
3 whole kidneys or a 'growth' on 1? We take liquid in with a good diet. Drinking is important too. But I get bloated if I drink too much ::)
-
Yes, I do have three whole kidneys. Had a kidney scan once and it revealed three kidneys called (duplex kidneys). That was a big surprise to me. I was told to drink plenty, so I must start and do that.
-
I know someone with 2 and a half in that a 3rd kidney began to form on the side of one …….
-
My friends brother has four kidneys. Quite a lot don't you think. Anyway, is it you CLKD that recommends the Muti gyn actigell? I am itching again tonight, funny how it is always in the same place usually in the folds of the skin. Sorry if that's too much information. I will try the actigel, probably I don't use enough. Not really sure how much to use. Can sometimes go for days without the itching. Strange how it goes. Can't believe we have to put up with all this. Fell sorry for us all. :'( :(

I have the Itchies there also Midnight ....... I am off to Mr Panay tomorrow regarding all this , and I have written my " war and peace " on my pour vagina , so I can hand it straight to him ( rather than sitting there blubbing) make the most of my time , hubby read it and says it makes very sad reading , what we go through. :'( :'( :'(

Midnight - I too have that it seems to be a sharp scratch inside the folds of my skin - sometimes if I look there it's quite red and sore inside but mostly in the evening very strange !

Thank you Mary Jane , funny or should I say very annoying why we get this itching. I hope you get on all right with your visit to Mr Pandy. Do let us know how you get on. Big hugs. ;)
-
Thanks Sweet Scarlet, for your reply. Do you use anything to stop the itching? It really is very annoying. What we women have to suffer, it just isn't fair. Hope you can have a nice day.
-
Hi Midnight - I'm on HRT and Vagifem x2 and Ovestin for outer areas I also use Hydromol as and when to sooth and stop the itches
This is the pits - I remember someone commenting on here ( I think) that this condition made them so desperate they would taken furniture polish if they thought it helped ! I thought that described it completely - so funny yet so poignant
I'm not too bad today thanks - Hope you are ok too

Morning to you all, hope you don't mind me asking Mary Jane how did you get on with Mr PANAY regarding your itching? Mine has flared up again just in the same place. Burning has subsided so suppose I can't have it always. I am trying cetraben for the itching, it has been recommended on the website. Will let you know how that goes. Have a nice day everyone.
