Hi, being new to this forum I am interested in hearing from anyone who has strange, hard to describe symptoms. I have been 'suffering' from all manner of things since January, having previously only experiencing mild meno changes. I have not had a period for approximately 2 years they just stopped and never came back :-\
This is my list of hypochondria!
1. Nausea/morning sickness.
2. Feeling not quite being '
there'
3. Lighthead/drunk feeling
4.Weak legs
5.Tinnitus
6.blocked/ full ears
7.stiff neck and shoulders
8.runny nose
9.feelings of chemicals circulating
10. Sore muscles on scalp/ feeling of hair being parted the wrong way.
11.Loss of 'self'
These are the ones that spring to mind immediately but there are others that I have forgotten. (Shocking memory).
These can be constant. (Spaced out feeling) or come and go seemingly at will. I am assuming they are cyclical????
All are rubbish on there own but when you add in crippling anxiety, low mood, panic attacks and tiredness it makes for a pretty poor time. Maybe i'm just going mad?

Hi and welcome to MM Lostit
Your hormones will probably have bottomed out now and this is often when the true side effects of oestrogen deficiency kicks in. What you are describing is all very normal I'm afraid.
Do have a good look at your diet to see if you are lacking in vital things like Vitamin D, Magnesium and Omega 3 oils.
I do a lot of relaxing Mindful Meditation and Brisk walking these days to help me through the day. DG x

Hi Lostit, no your not going mad I have these symptoms and more! I'm glad you mentioned the runny nose that one comes from nowhere and goes again! Or am I mad! No it's meno I'm afraid!
You must read the thread sparkle rebooted for you it put me a ease not barking mad etc with it all.

I re-read it myself at times Jan, just to reassure myself! It's worth a read for the humour!!

I totally agree Sparkle!!
I keep saying to myself, no I'm not mad or going mad!! It's called blinkin hormones!! ;D

sparkle - my GP suggested Mindfulness about 4 years ago and I have to say I sceptical. I read the book she suggested (written by british doctors) and it made very good sense. I have in the past tried self hypnosis which I also found useful at the time but the Mindfulness took some practising to find what worked for me. There are tracks on Youtube that are good and seem find focusing on something like a lighted candle can be good. You do need to practise a lot to start with so you can easily slip into this positive state when needed.
When I get over tired or in a stressful time I can now switch my mind more easily into a place that sooths me generally. I actually find I often get a hot flush when I'm doing the Miindfulness which is odd but it's as though a pleasant warmth is spreading over me and I think you need to find something to focus on that works for you. Focusing just on breathing didn't work so well for me - I get myself into a story in my head where I feel good - it's difficult to describe but I create positive and happy experiences in my mind that make me feel good. And that's a polite word for them Jan!
S x
Yep very polite ;D pesty hormones!!!
Thank you DG, that's really good to hear. I'm trying to bring my focus back to what I'm doing instead of letting my mind wander off into a million and one directions like it normally does. It's tricky to do but when I do manage it I have to say it is calming and something I'd like to work at because I know I'd reap the benefits.

I'm very interested also with mindfulness too. Totally relate that's what I'm doing too Sparkle bringing mind back to the now etc. Challenges eh?

Hi Lostit. I sailed through Peri feeling fantastic and thought I had got off lightly. How wrong was I? Three years post meno and all the symptoms you mention hit me like a sledgehammer . The dizziness and lightheadedness cost me a job I loved because I couldn't cope with standing all day and feeling I was going to fall over. Tinnitus hit out of the blue and then I started with a blocked left ear and sinus. Numerous visits to an ENT consultant proved useless and all he could suggest was rinsing with a saline nasal wash three times a day.
All these symptoms can be due to a bottoming out of estrogen hormone and the only thing that helped me was going onto hrt. I found out there are estrogen receptors all over the body ( including the nose) and then it all made sense as to why I felt so rotten when my levels plummeted.
The symptoms can be scary when they hit thick and fast, but once you realise what's causing them you can start to get back on track. Hope you get sorted soon🙂

Hi Linz57, I too have been down the ent route and been told I have an inner ear problem or eustacean tube dysfunction and to use a saline nasal wash and a nasal spray. I was told to get rid of the anxiety and it would die down. It's hard to get rid of anxiety when it is caused by your hormonal chemical imbalance :( I have had to tell.my gp that it is the menopause that is causing these problems but they only seem to care about hot flashes and low libido. I can't take oestrogen because of past breast cancer. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place :-\ Thanks for sharing your experience

Hi,
I feel similar symptoms to you. Feel totally weird and also a bit paranoid.
I think my get dose is too low so going to try a higher dose.
I have found this forum helpful. Makes me feel normal.
I feel spaced out and also this week had a constant headache and lights affecting me as they seem brighter than usual unless I am going mad!
We will all get through this X

Reading your replies on Tinnitus hear! God it brought memories back too last year when tinnitus hit my right ear and numerous trips to doc then Went to ENT specialist it was scary! dizziness, feeling faint and feeling disoriented in buildings like supermarket it was a nightmare and nauseas too i felt out of balance. Absolutely awful! I've adapted now I have loss of hearing in that ear and that horrible noise. But you live with it I'm just lucky it wasn't menieres disease as they thought I had that in the beginning.
Blinking hormones!!!

I'm also have been feeling light-headed this week it started after a period I just had. Haven't had a period for a couple of months either. This month I'm struggling with my IBS and digestive problems for some reason it has got worse. Every month seems so different last month it was aches and pains with joints this month horrible stomach problems and bowels and of course bladder too. My estrogen must be at a all time low. Never ending really. But I'm learning to appreciate the good days and I do feel normal sometimes!! And pain free too!

Hi Sparkle
Can i ask if you are through perimenopause now?
-
Hi there
It's horrible isn't it all these weird things that happen to you! However, it's good to know you can come on here and most of us have experienced these things and can reassure you it's probably low oestrogen.
I got hit big time a few months ago by the whole lot after I had an operation. Had 2-3 months of anxiety, low blood sugar, weird head, vertigo, worsened tinnitus and general feeling pretty rubbish. Fortunately I saw a naturopath who sorted me out with a load of herbs and supplements but also realising that it was anxiety/low hormones which was causing a catch 22 situation. I think once you know it's nothing too serious then it's easier to tell yourself it's just hormones and have to run with it. I'm supposed to be post for 4/5 years, on HRT and I'm still going through ups and downs of hormones dipping, then being okay for a while. Happy to say I'm feeling much better now and hardly any anxiety last week when OH was away, yay!!
The only thing this week is I've felt very dry, dry nose, eyes, digestions not working as well, throat, feel like I need lots of liquid - that's another thing that hits every now and again!
We do have to look after ourselves at this time as over doing anything will have an effect on our hormones and well being. A couple of stressy days brought on a lot of those symptoms for me and it was pretty scary how quickly and severe they were. Take care :)

We could be twins Jan with our dodgy digestive systems, so annoying aren't they! I don't think I'll ever fathom mine out >:(
S x
Nor me Sparkle I can't fathom mine out either! Didn't have this last month oh my stomach so much wind it kept me up the other week 2 nights on the trot!! Then felt better! Now back through the day this week and my bowels well runs etc. I've never had it this bad before! Stomach cramps you name it.
I'm learning a bit about essential oils at the moment Sparkle I've got a supply coming i will experiment on my self. I'm keeping an open mind to this but if it helps I will let you know. I will try anything natural you know!!!
Hope u r okay?

All the best Sparkle,I hope you carry on this way. I was feeling the same as you for months and months but now things have eased somewhat.

Hi Sparkle
I'm on oestriogel 2 pumps and 10 days of utrogestan. I take Lansaparole as well x
-
Hi Sparkle
I do pop in each day but have been busy and if left to it I could probably spend all day on here chatting ;D
No meds for digestion, getting more daring with eating things but still taking it sensibly. I've found with creamy rich things I can only tolerate a little otherwise I feel sick. Still avoiding oily or greasy things otherwise doing well. I find I can't eat big portions (no bad thing!) and if I do accidentally over eat then I get pains and a touch of reflux. Since that doc gave me the PPI course then I've not had hardly any. Must be annoying for you having to take them all the time and it's still not helping but as you say the hernia must be causing a lot of problems and I guess they don't do anything about those?
Unfortunately I still can't drink much :( Had a glass of wine early evening the other night and I went to bed around midnight and had a disturbed night, palpitations, felt like an adrenaline rush and I haven't had that for ages now, so must be the wine? Flipping nuisance as I like a drop of red but I seem to be okay with spirits and bubbles aren't so bad. Must be something in reds....oh well another glass of Moet or a cocktail please!
Hope you're able to get some relief soon! x

Hi thanks for your post feeling just as you described :o :o how long does all this last I've been having symtoms for the last 5/6 years 😬😬 lots of sympathy girls xxx
-
Post-nasal drip anyone - sounds as unpleasant as it actually is - yet another thing to put up with....
-
Certainly is!
-
Yes to post-nasal drip and sinus congestion - very annoying for me! Just in the mids of awful congested state now. Def hormonal for me as it comes and goes and is not season-related, neither it is alergy.

Hi and I thought I was going mad but it seems quite a few of you out there are suffering with the same symptoms as me. They all hit very fast after having hot flushes for 5 years or more. Came in a big hit when had a huge anxiety attach, or was advised that is what I had suffered. Since then all has come out. Has anyone one else had this sort of thing, ok one minute then big anxiety attach and all symptoms coming out
😥

Hello ladies.
I think I have told this story before but I thought I'd repeat it here. Muscle aches and pains have never been much of a problem for me thankfully but recently I've noticed that my left shoulder and lower back can be stiff and sore in the morning but usually better during the day. The reason I mention this again now is because I've realised that on the mornings my muscles feel fine I invariably have more jitters and anxiety and vice versa. It's almost as if the hormonal deficit moves around the body and I wonder if that explains the range of symptoms that we experience.
I also know what it's like to feel almost normal one minute only to be the victim of an unpleasant 'surge' the next. I find this unpredictable nature of the menopause very unsettling and it has gone a long way to destroying my confidence.
I wonder what symptoms we would select if we had to make a choice. I can think of plenty I could do without!
Take care ladies.

Unfortunately I also get stiff muscles in the morning (don't most of us at a certain age?) but never suffer from morning jitters or anxiety - I am always far too sleepy (from too much snoring ;D ). My left shoulder also wakes me in the night - and I am on systemic HRT and testosterone and only intermittent progesterone.
Once you are well post-menopausal, then any anxiety can't really be due to hormonal surges - they just don't fluctuate enough for that. If you are on a patch then you are giving yourself a pretty regular and constant amount of oestrogen. Not sure what your variation can be due to - but I think many of us experience variation in how we feel from day to day and week to week. However I wonder if some experience anixety because oestrogen dose is overall too low, or the progestogen does not agree with them? Could this be what's happening with you?
