I posted two or three months ago about starting Hrt at over 60.
I am 61 and was referred to a gynaecologist by my GP as I have a prolapse . A cystocele or prolapse of the bladder into the vagina.
The gynaecologist took one look and said the problem was made worse by vaginal atrophy.
He referred me to a women's health physio and I am now on an eight month programme of exercises which are really helping.
He prescribed vagifem initially and the atrophy symptoms did improve but after two months he also prescribed a three month trial of Kliovance.
I have been back to see him today after this trial and it has been a total success. My irritable bladder symptoms have improved 95%. The prolapse is under my control now with the exercises.
Best of all he declared that many people believe the menopause is a medical syndrome invented by doctors. He said these people are either men or belong to the 30% of women who never experience symptoms.
He has written to my GP and asked him to prescribe Hrt and vagifem for me for the next five years when he will review the prolapse. He has recommended to the GP that I stay on Hrt and vagifem for life because the bladder symptoms caused by the atrophy will return if the medication ceases.
This has been entirely done on the NHS in Guildford.
When I visited my GP in March with the symptoms of prolapse and irritable bladder, he referred me to this wonderful gynaecologist warning me that surgery was the only likely outcome.
Hopefully this gynaecologist will be educating more GPs!

Great to hear such a positive result, well to you and your gyne !

That is good news. I have a mild prolapse at the front - I have already had surgery at the back which I think is much more straightforward. Sticking to my hrt and exercise :)

What a brilliant post Elizabeth, I'm really delighted for you. It is truly encouraging and wonderful to hear that this chap really knows his stuff, you may well be inundated with PMs asking for his name and number!!
Perhaps we should find a way to be able to recommend NHS accessible Docs on here who have provided an excellent service, without advertising of course. It's easy to find good private specialists but not always easy to identify where they work for the NHS. Very few Docs work exclusively private.
I send you all good wishes. x

Excellent news, if only all doctors were as enlightened. It's great that you will be on HRT for life - I am too. Let's hope that in future, use of HRT becomes the norm rather than the exception as it seems to be now.
Long may you success continue!

Thank you! I love happy stories!

Nice to hear your story how wonderful too. Hope you don't mind may I ask who your gynae is? If you don't mind can you PM the details.
Thanks
Janxx

That's okay Sparkle!! Would like his name I have a mild prolapse going on as well as va etc. I thought he might be better for me this gynae Elizabethlovejoy is seeing. At some point I need a review.

I don't know if I am allowed to name him on the forum. But if I keep posting I will eventually be able to pm you!
-
Elizabeth, as far as I can understand you are allowed to name him but not add on a link which leads to a sales link. There are a few male gynaes that work out of both of the hospitals you mentioned so a name would be really helpful. x
-
Ok,he is Mr Paul Curtis.
Hope that helps :)

Cheers!!! Janx

Thank you, Elizabethlovejoy for this lovely, positive story - it is great to hear news like this when so many doctors don't seem to listen to their menopausal patients' needs! :) X

The key is the combination of the pelvic floor exercises supervised by the women's health physio and the hrt with Vagifem.
Google gussiegrips on mumsnet for a good humorous insight into the wonderful, work these physios do.

Lovely outcome Elizabeth!!
