Title: High hopes for new GP!
Post by: dazned on August 31, 2016, 04:05:13 PM
As some of may know Ive recently moved from the South to North Wales  ::)

Anyway just registered with the local village GP and due to the ongoing pain in hand I got an appointment straightaway today ,that was the first positive .
Lovely lady doctor spent ages with me explaining and showing me diagrams of the thumb joint and what she thought. She then wanted fasting bloods taken to rule out gout ! Apparently another medication Im on can cause crystallization ,first Id been told about that ! >:(
She thenasked what medications I was on so I told her, then thought Id tell her that I had recently stopped hrt and all the difficulties that I had faced at my old GPs obtaining it and going private etc etc... she looked horrified and said she would be happy to work with me if I decided to go that route again, especially if it turns out that the pain in my hand is arthritis she said hrt would help ! She told me all about the new Nice guidelines !  ::)
All in all I was very impressed and hopeful that I have found a great GP/ practice, she apologised for my wait and said they always try to see everyone the same day if at all possible. Goodness me wonders will never cease !

Yes its a small practice compared to what I used to !

Oh forgot to mention you leave the surgery go out the back to like a little hut and theres a dispensary !! Couldnt believe it ! The doc said oh dear it closed at this time an hour for lunch just leave it at recption. So I did thinking oh I can go back later pick it up,lady at reception said hang on a minute I'll pop and get it for you ,I was flabbergasted ! And I get my fasting blood test done there tomorrow .  :o

Yes I was concerned about what I would come up against but it seems like I've struck gold ! Had blood test there yesterday and the nurse said that it was a fantastic practice, she said she wasnt just saying that as she wasnt attached to the surgery she worked at many and this was the best ! So im very relieved.

Fantastic news dazned, it gives us all hope! I'm sure knowing you have a great gp will help you feel reassured, so many don't take the time to actually listen to their patients ( lack of time or interest) so maybe a small practise us the way to go.
Hmmm, if I win the lottery this weekend I might see about bribing this doctor to move down here.....😉

Hi all, haven't posted for a while but just wanted to join this thread.  We had an amazing lady GP when we lived in Croydon - she was very interested in women's health and just had a fantastic manner so was the one that everyone wanted to see.  She understood my health anxiety and was so supportive over the years.  As a result, when we were moving down to Kent six years ago I was naturally apprehensive but I really shouldn't have worried.  We've got quite a large practice in our village, but the GPs are lovely - my GP is a gem and his registrar is just as good.  The nurses do all the usual blood tests, smears etc. there, we've got a dispensary and even a dermatology clinic.  I have to say that we've never had a problem getting an appointment there, and they've also listened to patient concerns so consequently on two days a week they open early - first appointment at 7.30am - and stay open until 7pm.  When I hear about the problems a lot of people have with their GP surgeries - my friend at work has a nightmare surgery - seriously! - I realise just how lucky we are.
