Anybody else like me. I'm 49 and peri menopause an just started taking HRT. I have noticed that in the last month I have had 3 allergic reactions to things on my skin. Two were clothing and the other was sport tape that was hypoallergenic. Both caused intense itching and big red bumps on my skin. Just wondering if this is another obscure menopause symptom.

:welcomemm: yep. Birch pollen is another 1 to rear it's ugly head apparently >:( ::).

I started having various food intolerances during peri menopause. I'm now post menopause, and though I still have these intolerances, my reactions are far less severe and can tolerate small amounts of the problem foods.

Since hitting perimenopause I've had nothing but trouble allergy wise. Developed giant hives last year and still struggling - ended up at out of hrs last week as everything was so swollen up - no idea what causes mind and going to push for referral as antihistamines not helping at current dose and GP won't off licence prescribe. I've also developed some sort of allergic rhinitis that is driving me mad as ears clogged and itchy most days. It sucks. Apparently it's a recognised menopausal thing to see increase in allergies according to my ENT nurse.

Hi,. I developed food and chemical intolerances when the early rumblings of peri started nearly three years ago. Had to change diet & some toiletries (I avoid SLS & parabens). On a recent holiday, I tried a very small amount of a local liquor &, within a few minutes, my cheeks felt extremely hot & my body looked like I had a very bad case of sunburn! It took around 30 minutes for the redness to disappear. Strangely, my normally mild hayfever also became much worse the day this happened then it disappeared two days later just before my period started. It made me wonder if histamine levels rise before a period is due or is it just coincidence?

Just a quick update. Spoke to my doctor and have been advised to stop taking HRT ( Prempack C ) straight away due to the reactions I have been getting ( intense itching, red bumbs and leg cramps). Have an appointment to see him on Friday where we can discuss another type. 😊

My skin became very itchy and red when I started with peri-menopausal symptoms. The 2 times I tried to wean myself of HRT and was off if for 2 weeks at the longest, the itching returned, so in my case it must be hormone related, especially when estrogen is low.

Looking at the other makes of HRT like Prempack c, they all have cramping and itching skin as a side effect. I'm not so keen to try them now as my skin is so terribly itchy. I only stopped it yesterday and am hoping it comes out of my body soon as I'm drawing blood now with the itching. My face is no longer swollen now tho, so that's a relief. I only went on HRT to help with my hot flushes ( approx 15-20 a day) so I'm thinking of Florexatine as that seems to help the flushes.

I'm an allergy sufferer and mine definitely seem worse since meno started (I'm 49 and post)
I get such random ones I'd never know what caused it, sometimes it doesn't seem to be anything and my lip will start swelling
The most bizarre one Is our back patio door, I'm fine opening and closing it during the day but as soon as I try in the evenings I get itchy welts in a line that my palms have touched it, I now use a towel to open/close it !

Yes stellajane
I carry 2 X epipens as I am latex allergic plus the connectors, exotic fruits
I was sent for allergy tests, I even reacted to water ! But not house dust mite, strange
I buy antihistamines in bulk and developed asthma because of the allergies
All I can think of re the door handle is my resistance is lower in the evenings as it happens walking away from the door, no time to put my hands anywhere

That's nice to know, I was hospitalised overnight last year by taking Movicol, I read the ingredients and knew there wasn't my allergens on there. Boom within seconds I was struggling for breath, turned out one of the ingredients comes from the acacia tree that has latex in the trunk! I yellow carded it for other sufferers

Been off Prempack C for 5 days now, the itching has subsided but not gone, the swelling on my face has gone but then one of my eyes swelled up. Roll on this afternoon when I can get to speak to my GP. if it is an allergic reaction then I am surprised as I am not generally allergic to anything, although as a child I did have infantile eczema so I don't know if this could have an effect ( clutching at straws I think), or just trying to find a reason why I've had this reaction.

Yes, indeed! Anaphylaxis to multiple medications started for me in peri menopause. I too now carry 2 epi pens. Men don't realise how lucky they are, us ladies suffer allergies much more readily than men. Why must we suffer so? Grrrr! >:(
