Title: Estriol at 85!!!
Post by: Justjules on July 27, 2016, 08:13:45 PM
OMG, can't believe it but my lovely Mum has been given estriol as her eostrogen levels are low and she's suffering with a prolapse and is in a lot if discomfort with burning and feels rubbish. It just made me laugh to think that we are always going to be at the mercy of these damn hormones!!  ;D

Ha ha Sparkle! She's a tough cookie so she'll be fine.  She was sent to a&e with it the other day by 111 and she had the staff nurse in hysterics with how she described what her nether regions resembled....at least she keeps a sense of humour through everything. I need to be more like her  :-\

Robotwars, how strange is that! Hope your Mum feels better soon too. Dr said my Mum just needs to see a physio fortunately.

Sorry for everyone suffering from prolapse but it must be especially difficult when you are older. My friend's mum had an emergency hysterectomy for womb prolapse three years ago - the whole lot fell out - at the age of 81 and it's improved her life immensely. You obviously have to be in good health for this but more and more older people are being offered surgery where, in the past, they would have been denied.

On a different note my 95 year old male friend has just received his second new knee and is bombing around on crutches with go faster stripes and stickers on.  ;D

At least ladies are being listened to at the upper end of 'old'!  Maybe your Mum should write a book  ;)

Does staying on HRT prevent this kind of problems then?  I'm 48 and been on for a couple of years, but if it's going to prevent this sort of thing, I may stay on it long-term.

Liz, I'm not sure, not having taken it myself but my Mum did until she was in her seventies and they took her off it because she had a breast scare.  Nowadays, I think she would have been left on it. She said it was the best thing ever and she felt old once she came off it.

I agree Stellajane.  My Mum would definitely have stayed on it if she had the choice but unfortunately it was at a time when it wasn't advised.  She has osteoporosis and now has a prolapse.  Her friend is 90 and is still on 'the odd tablet' which hasn't done her any harm, probably the contrary.

I've got a friend who is 95 and on HRT. She swears by it, and apparently no one has tried to take it off her.
