Good Morning
It's been ages since I logged on here this site was such a comfort to me when I first started peri after my last period in December 2014, the name the horrible symptoms, terrible anxiety, flushes, night sweats.
After trying various hrt and anti depressants for the anxiety, I just felt worst and stopped everything and now take vitamin d, vitamin b with magnesium and that's it, happy to say I rarely get a panic attack or palpatations anymore unless something has worried me, before they were all the time.
The flushes and night sweats and lack of sleep are a different matter and are still there, I wake up during the night with sweat pouring off me and my heart beating like mad as its horrible and still scary. I sometimes feel sick with it too.
I just wondered if anybody has found anything to help with this other than hrt and anti depressants??, I'm constantly tired, how long will this all last?? Xx

Hi there.
Welcome back. I take Ad's, have a mirena and take Oestrogen.....so no help I'm afraid.
However I feel like I'm in a fitness day and night just now.......phew......it is hard work. I sleep with the window open and naked which I guess helps at night .

karenja - I'm afraid I have tried every remedy under the sun and only HRT really works. I started my peri meno in my mid 30s, was post meno from my early 40s and I am now 60. Over these years I have had breaks from HRT and always found it very difficult to control flushes and night sweats. As you get deeper into menopause then the symptoms can get worse but some find they actually subside more quickly once the periods stop. We are all different and respond differently to the menopause and any HRT treatments.
My top tips for coping:
Eat regularly and a really healthy diet. Talk to a dietician if you need advice. I would add some Omega3 into your diet either with regular oily fish (e.g. tuna or salmon) or supplements.
Take regular exercise (even if you feel really tired) - brisk walking is the best but yoga and Pilates are good. I've got a pedometer on my phone and try to do at least 8000 steps per day.
Cut out as much stress as possible and take life more easily - this is not easy and requires the ability to say “NO†at times. Don't try to be all things to all people and actually be a little selfish. If you don't sleep well then take a little nap or a good rest in the middle of the day.
RELAXATION - probably my most effective strategy for coping with the fatigue, stress and flushes. I practise Mindful Meditation - this can take many forms but essentially you need to train yourself to switch off the stresses that come your way and look at things in a more positive and detached way. It takes a lot of practise and discipline but can be great. A brisk walk while doing the meditation is perfect.
Some women find a ‘Chillow' helps you to keep cool at night. DG x

Just goggle Chillow - basically it's a type of pillow that stays really cool so you can put it under your pillow or by your feet at night and it helps you to stay cool. Dg x

Hi Karenja.
You'll know the stresses I have had with the loss of my son....was Mrs January.
I swear by mindfulness honey.....stress....what's that! I chose not to go there, it takes practice but turning what might seem stress into positives is so refreshing......we have a choice to rid negative emotions ......hugs
