Title: Patches
Post by: Minniemouse on July 01, 2016, 08:40:10 PM
Hi everyone, am thinking about beach holiday in the sun and wondered what different experiences are for patches? Has anyone had any particular problems with heat/sweat/being in the sea for a long time? Also, I am currently on 25mcg and feel as though my brain fog has been helped slightly, but does anyone think there is more to be gained from increasing to 40mcg? I had started originally on the 40mcg but felt wired so dropped down to 25mcg and have now been on these for about 6 weeks  - presumably I am used to these now? I too am suffering with the whooshing sound in my head/ears and don't want this to get worse! Thanks for any help

Hi MM
Could you try alternating between 25mcg & 40mcg?
I have been on patches for 5 years, never had a problem with patches on beach holidays.

Hi little minniemouse,  thanks for that, hadn't thought of alternating. But would that make me bleed? I also have mirena.

I don't think I would alternate. I would be in a constant up and down state. If you've adjusted to the 25 I would give the 40 a try. I was fairly sensitive when first trying patches and later when increasing my dose. Both times I ripped off my patch within a day and tried again later, and both times I adjusted fine on my second try, settling on the higher dose.

As to whether there is anything to be gained, are you having flushes? I was really not seeking relief from the flushes so much as the brain fog and other symptoms, but I was still having hot spells on my lower dose. I think even if it's not your main concern, the flushes are a good indicator of whether your on a proper dose.

If you are still feeling hot/sweats and night and some flushes and not feeling as good as you could - then why not increase to 40 mcg I quite agree (with Lizab here). I agree also I would not alternate - you need to settle on one dose and stick with it for a while!

Re sweating - I do find when it's very hot and I sit in a chair in the sun - the patch can come a bit unstuck - which is only to be expected since a warm hand is needed to apply it! Just be careful and keep an eye on it - and take a few extra with you!

Thank you ever so much for your thoughts. Really my most troublesome problem is the whooshing sound in my ears/head and also the brain fog-which is massively better than it was, but I just wonder if it could be better? My memory is still awful! Don't suppose I will know unless I try?! I don't have any problem with hot flushes at all. As for the hot weather, that's a good idea to make sure I take extra with me, just in case.

Hi everyone,
To update you - I switched to 40mcg patches about 2 weeks ago. They definitely stick better! I have also noticed an improvement in brain fog! ::) very happy about that! However....I have noticed a reduction in sex drive and I do feel a bit sore down there. Have been using Sylk, which helps. Is this to be expected? Thanks
