Title: Elleste Conti Duet - weight gain and constipation
Post by: scumspawn on June 28, 2016, 11:13:09 AM
Month 3, I've gone up a dress size. I've cut down the pills so I have half (of the 2mg pill) a day, sometimes missing a day because I was getting the most awful constipation. Nothing in my diet has changed, the only new thing is the HRT.

So, what next?
The good thing is that even half a pill every other day controls my hot flushes enough so I can sleep. The bad thing is that I am the size of a small village and my self esteem is plummeting. I'm also quite mad - having dreams so vivid I don't know if they are real or not and I have to ask people if something happened.

I've a phone appt with the Dr in a few weeks - what should I ask for? Is it worth trying another hrt? Is it worth trying patches?

I've read through the forums and it looks like the menopause itself causes weight gain, it's not clear if hrt makes it worse.

I'm 48, haven't had a period in about 3 years, had blood tests and I'm post menopausal.

Any advice or experiences shared would be most appreciated.

hi scumspawn-I have just read your post with horror as I am on the same pills and have already put on loads of weight due to (I believe) other medication combined with the menopause itself and hope to God I don't put on more now that I am  on these pills! it is so depressing and zaps your confidence; I have only been on the tablets for two weeks and have not noticed a recent increase in weight (although I stopped getting on the scales earlier this year my clothes do not feel uncomfortable at the moment).  However, I have noticed that I actually cannot eat much these days and so I eat little and often and also try to avoid regular carbs and heavy foods - I also try and get out to do a "power walk" as often as I can and whilst this hasn't made any difference to my weight or tone it makes me feel good- I have also cut out fizzy drinks (used to drink gallons of diet coke) and have iced water as much as possible but do still have tea and coffee(decaf coffee);

I haven't experienced constipation on these tablets but HAVE noticed I need the loo more and often feel I have a dodgy tum if you get my meaning... :-\

Thanks Fiftygirl - I don't drink fizzy drinks and I eat pretty well, with the odd treat, probably too much food for my age though not enough to bloat me like this I wouldn't have thought.

I had a glass of wine last night which means today I have a really dodgy tummy. Urgh.

I hope it's not the same for you as it is for me

If half a tablet controls your flushes try 1mg estrogen,maybe femston conti1/5 ,Im assuming that you have your womb still,therefore needing progesterone. This type has a kinder progesterone and seems to suit most women.
