Title: Musac
Post by: CLKD on June 01, 2016, 08:15:15 PM
Apparently M&S are stopping 'piped' music in their stores  :bounce:

I often walk in, say to the assistant that I will bring my air-rifle next time and walk out again without even browsing  :-\.  It's bad enough for customers but it must upset those working in stores!

I think all the major stores will catch on and get rid of it, at least for some of the time.  Some Asda supermarkets have introduced quiet hours when they have no piped music and minimal movement of cages, etc, round the store - it was introduced to help those with autistic children to shop in a less stimulating (and therefore less stressful) environment.  It won't be long before those in charge of all the big stores and chains realise how much people like the peace!

..... and of course, no piped music means no performance licences to pay for!!!

I don't recall ever hearing music in any M&S. Maybe I too tune it out, but I don't think so, cos I notice it elsewhere, like in the car park at IKEA, which I find really strange and weird.

I felt I had cause to e mail the customer service dept of Debenhams after a new store opened in our town.  the volume of the 'background' music was horrendous, especially in the cafe where you could not hold a conversation with the person you were with.  Added to that the ladies loos were filthy, and this was a new store  >:(

Yes I got a telephone call and an invitation to reappraise the store in a months time which I did.  They were true to their word and it has been much more 'background ever since and none at all in the cafe.

I hate music in the loos  ::)

On the second day of the London organ trip that I've just come back from, I went to the loo at one the churches.  No sooner had I sat down on said loo, than loud and luscious music sounded right above me. Was this a divine moment?  No - the toilets were directly underneath the organ pipes.........!   ::)

There's a visitor centre I sometimes visit to use the conveniences when walking the dog. For some reason they don't have any doors on the loos (they do have doors on the individual cubicles!) so they have music playing to provide a level of privacy for the users and other visitors  :-X
