I know that I have posted about this before but it is something that really gets me down. It is just like the pregnancy sickness feeling but obviously it has gone on much longer. I really wondered if anyone has had anything really effective prescribed. I found a thread on gardenweb which made me feel that plenty of other women were trying to cope with this. One lady suggested a prescription medicine called ondansetron but I am not sure about side effects. I have prochlorperazine from the GP which is moderately effective. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

A problem with the anti-emetic drugs like Ondansetron (which is very expensive so you are unlikely to get many on the NHS) and Metachlopramide is that they work by stimulating the central nervous system so can make adrenaline anxiety worse - if you have this symptom. When I took them I felt manic, restless and had a full on anxiety attack on one occasion. This may not happen to you though if you have low oestrogen in post rather than perimenopause. So can only give my experience.
Domperidone, which empties the stomach more quickly, helps some women but again it's a stimulant (as is ginger).
Strong antihistamines that lower nausea, like Cyclizine, calm the CNS so also relax you but do cause drowsiness and then grogginess later on, so only good to take if getting 5am nausea and can sleep in for a few hours.
The most effective remedy I found was a non drug medicine called Emetrol, but it's not sold in the UK so can work out expensive via Amazon as one dose only lasts an hour so you can get through a lot! I got the tip from a pregnancy website and it really is amazing stuff, think it's phosphorus which slows down digestion, just can't work out why we don't have it here as its sold over the counter in Australia and the US very cheaply and has won awards.
If you can stop the source of the nausea with lowering oestrogen surges, if they're the cause, then even better.
Good luck!

Hi there.
Yep I useto get it. Now I eat toast of biscuit before bed, it can often be due to low blood sugars x
-
Yep. A mix of low blood sugar = anxiety surges. AWFUL :'(
Eating every 3 hours (here I go again ::) ) 24/7, 52/12 is important. Peppermint tea. Ginger biscuits. Bananas, porridge anything that is slow release can help. As can anti-sickness medication. I don't know if Domperidone is prescribed any longer but a Pharmacist can direct you to something that helps.
I have in the past used anti-histamines or travel sickness tablets [Kwells] which make me sleep and give me some relief.

Thanks for your advice CLKD and all, so kind of you. I really have suffered with this.

I don't have this problem now, but I used to - I found that keeping a dry biscuit by my bed & nibbling it as soon as I woke up (lying down with my eyes shut) helped. I still have to make sure I eat breakfast immediately after getting up but the nausea isn't so bad any more.
-
I hated it. The nausea would immediately make me panic and the downward spiral would begin.
Remember: every 3 hours, 24/7!

Don't ignore it, you may have an un-diagnosed infection. I had this several years ago and eventually discovered I had a kidney infection. Only after I had become quite ill though.
-
What other symptoms did you have breeze?
-
I had the nausea and feeling generally off for about three weeks, but it was not until the last few days, before I saw the doc, that I had back ache. I get back ache any way so I didn't connect it. Then the final few hours I felt really ill. Hot and cold sweats, trembling and continuously feeling very sick.
Oddly I and no real wee symptoms, but apparently that often happens with upper UTIs.
