Hi all, I have yet to get prescribed the hormones, (hopefully next week when I go to appointment) but in the mean time I am very sore and close to burning feeling in vagina . At the clinic she mentioned vestibulitis and I've been trying natural probiotic yoghurt and ice packs. Up till now it helped a little, but today not really and couldn't sleep with it. Because I had severe inflammation last week it's probably still inflamed and sore, so I don't dare put a chemical type cream on it. This is a difficult one, but anyone tried baking soda sitz bath... or alternate cold with warm water...? Thanks in advance as can't go out or do anything today.

While I struggled to get treatment for VA I ended up using Bepanthan nappy cream in desperation, it helped and didn't sting.

Poor you, I sympathise. When I was like this, nothing really helped except using barely warm water to wash the area gently, and then some Yes lube gel. If I applied it around the outside rather than tried inserting it, it seemed to ease things a little without risking introducing any infection.

Thank you - did you use it inside a little....? Thanks

I'm sorry that you're going through this sap22. When I was having problems with this, the only thing that helped was Sylk vaginal moisturiser. I bought mine online but I think you can get it in Boots. I am now on Vagifem (and Sylk to keep things moist) and the soreness and urinary urgency etc are a thing of the past.
I hope you can get some relief soon.

No,but it probably migrated there!!

Don't leave you appointment without a prescription for Vagifem, I would also ask for Ovestin cream to use on the outside areas. I need to use both to get optimum comfort!

I found the oestrogen creams like Ovestin really made me burn when I was really sore - I think it's the fillers that arena issue for me.
sap22 - The bicarb bath is a good idea, also try drinking some bicarb in a glass of water 2-3 times a day as well - this would sooth any urethral burning. Try putting your feet up midday/after lunch and if possible lie down with no pants on - allowing the air to get to your ‘lady bits' - consciously relax your whole pelvic area - this is not easy to do as one instinctively wants to clench.
The other thing to think about is to do with your bladder - I find I really clench when I'm sore and, some time ago, I realised this stopped me from emptying my bladder properly each time and this would lead to my urine becoming old and made things even more sore when I passed urine. I have learned to really relax when peeing - sitting there and tilting my pelvis forwards and then backwards to really allow the bladder to empty - it is important not to retain urine as this can cause infection to take hold. Do keep the area moisturised - some like to use the water based lubricants but I use Sylk together with MultiGyn Actigel.
Vagifem or possibly the Estring will work if you can get through the first few weeks - it may cause some discomfort at first as it does it's magic. DG x

Thank you Dancing Girl for your useful advice - Ihaven't been able to wear pants for about month anyway! I have a feeling that the Ovestin might burn me as very sensitive. I have a tube, but too scared to try yet! Vagifem made me itch, but maybe the specialist I'm seeing will give me another option... MultiGyn Actigel is mentioned often it's for BV, but I presume you use it to keep bugs at bay...?

When I first started using topical oestrogen I was dry and sore and the nurse explained that the vagifem could make me aware of more soreness to begin with as the vaginal wall was dry and inflamed. A bit like when you put cream on grazed skin and it stings.
She was right for about 3 weeks then as the soreness and dryness got better I noticed there was less discomfort as the skin started to heal and now it is fine :)

Multi Gyn Actigel isn't just for treatment, it does help to prevent problems - it does sting a bit when first applied but is then very soothing. We are not supposed to recommend particular products on MM so I Must stress that there are other products available that can help - it's just I have found this one is the easiest to use and most effective. If you use Vagifem with the Multi Gyn Actigel &/or Sylk you may find it doesn't itch. Until the Vagifem had started to work (about 3 weeks) I found it did burn and itch for me as well - one has to persevere. I tried using the creams but they were messy and made my urethra burn. I tried the Estring which was great but I did get some thrush breaking out now and again. I still find systemic HRT the most effective in controlling my VA and bladder problems. DG x

I found Ovestin made me sting & feel more sore when I started using it, but after the first few days it was much better. Now I only get discomfort if I forget to use it.

Thanks for that useful to know it might initially not feel good, and that I need to persevere x

Thanks DG - it's so useful on this forum as people have already been through the mill and can pass on really helpful knowledge. I have tried the 50:50 ointment yesterday and today which is a mixture of soft and white paraffin and it has helped my soreness and am seeing someone later this week re the hormones x
