Title: Availability of estradot
Post by: Grumpymum on May 23, 2016, 09:24:25 AM
Hi, I've not been on here in a while. I have issues with my daughter's dyslexia which is taking up a lot of time and worry and my meno has taken a backseat!

Anyway, I've just been for a repeat prescription of estradot 75 to be told they can't get hold of them at the moment as there is a manufacturing problem. Has anyone else been told this recently? Boots are usually good at sourcing prescriptions.😟

Same problem with Estradot 25. My prescription went in 2 months ago & chemist still can't source it. GP had to change me to Evorel.

Boots have told me it's the same for all the strengths. I've got a few weeks in hand so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed. I've tried other patches and I've only stuck with these because they are so small to keep the size of the irritation down. Allergic to the gel as well. Otherwise, I'll have to consider tablets. Thanks ladies 😕

OO-er that doesn't bode well - I've never had a problem - so far..... perhaps try other pharmacies who might have some spare stock?

I need a repeat of the 50 estradot, was thinking of asking to try the estrogel so perhaps I will use the opportunity to change.
Are the Evorel ones bigger?

I always have Vagifem supply problems with our Boots store and we have three in the area...but our Sainsburys always have them.

Sometimes it is due to other Countries paying what the Pharmaceutical companies charge, which is what the British Government has problems with  >:(.  Is your GP aware of the problem?

Evorel 25 are about 4 times bigger than Estradot 25 Tinkerbell. Work just as well, they irritate my skin slightly, in that my skin goes rather pink, but not itchy. I need to ask my GP for more tomorrow when I see him.

This is the reason I had to go onto generic levothyroxine.  It took over 12 months to find a brand of generic that suited me  :(

My pharmacy are unable to get Estradot in any size, does anyone know what the problem Is? Have been switched to Evorel - anyone experience of Everol - they are a lot bigger and heard they are more likely to make you put on weight but wonder why that would be if its all the same hormone?

Even my GP doesn't have a clue what's happened with Estradot. He switched me to Evorel & I've been fine.

Maybe you'll be lucky. GP says he's had to change many ladies from  Estradot recently.

I've got 4 1/4 boxes of estradot 50 if anyone wants them, I'm happy to post them on. I tried switching to them from evorel 50 recently but I couldn't get on with the estradot, I felt as though I'd been poisoned and had to switch back - someone on here explained why (I forget who) one is made from soy and one from yam I think, either way I obviously have a sensitivity and they didn't suit me.  I've never had a problem with evorel, I felt better within hours of taking them although I do agree they don't help with weight gain, I've gone up from a double D to an F cup + my previously always flat stomach is now bloated and I certainly don't eat anymore.  Every so often it gets to me and I think about changing hrt but finding on that suits can be such a lottery x

I've been given generic prescriptions for everything, apart from vagifem and Ovestin, including asthma inhalers. I was bothered at first as I had been prescribed estradot by by the gynaecologist. But to be honest, I am not aware of any issues with changing makes. I just accept whatever is available. Usually I get evoral patches, probably as I think they may be the cheapest.

I have to pick it up today juju I'm not bothered what make it is as long as it does the same job ? If I get evoral patches are they the sane ? Sorry I know I sound daft but I'm so clueless with this 😊

Yes! Slightly different ingredients, which really only matters if you are allergic/ intolerant/ sensitive as in Peri's case. I actually prefer evoral for its sticking power. I've been given other makes and not noticed any difference.

Just a note on weight gain and enlarging boobs. With peri I put on 2 sts and my boobs went zooming up to an F cup, but I was not on HRT. I started HRT at age 60, followed dietary advice and lost more than  2 sts ( weigh less than I did in my teens) and went down to an E cup. I only indirectly attribute this to HRT in that I have more energy and do more, along side eating sensibly. Before the weight gain was probably due to a combination of hormones, eating poorly and inactivity due to extreme exhaustion that I was experiencing. So a good idea is to look at your lifestyle before blaming HRT!
