Hi.
I've been looking up online about further help for hot flushes and sweats. Does anyone know if Gabapentin is used in the UK..... or does anybody have recent experience of this medication?
Many thanks.

I found this info for you. It looks like it is a prescription only drug for epilepsy. Not sure about hot flushes??

Yes, thank you. It's apparently used also for severe hot flushes (off label) I think. Not sure though... Not really heard much about it.

Gabapentin is prescribed here in UK, and for many ailments. My Mum described it as not taking pain away but taking her away from everything. I didnt take mine, and my friend has been on it too for hip pain.

If you use the search button above you'll find ladies who have commented on it.

I wanted to respond to this as I was just recently prescribed this for anxiety and I'm alittle afraid to start it.seems it's an anti seizure medication anyone used it for anxiety and did it work
-
Thanks for replying Im still alittle scared to try it

It's actually one of the drugs I'm deathly allergic to! Don't be alarmed though, as I'm a bit of a 'special case' when it comes to drug allergies - it's not know to particularly cause allergic reactions in 'normal people' more than other drugs (i'm not normal when it comes to medications)! :o
I was prescribed it to treat neuropathic pain after failed spinal surgery. I didn't last long enough on it to know what the therapeutic effects were though! I haven't personally heard of it being used for anxiety. Is there a particular reason you've been prescribed it as opposed to say an SSRI, Buspar or Mirtazipine? It's a bit unusual, I think.

I've tried many SSRI I don't think they agree with me most have very bad side effects that doesn't improve or just don't work and makes things worse,s he said gabapentin for mood stabilizer as well im not so sure about this.

Gabapentin can help hot flushes,a friend of mine was perscribed it for this as she cant use hrt,she is now flush free and far less anxious ::)

Hi, a bit late on the reply, but I thought I'd add my two cents. Or pence as it were.
I take pregabalin (originally created for neuropathic pain and similar to Gabapentin) and it has almost entirely eliminated my hot flushes and panic attacks. It is prescribed here for generalized anxiety issues as well, not just for neuropathic pain.
Hope you're feeling better.
