Hi everyone and sorry for yet another post but after a particularly awful night I just need a bit of reassurance.
Have been off work for the last three weeks with what I am sure are my hormones playing up. At times I can feel like I'm getting back to normal the it just comes crashing down.
The last 3 days I have felt pretty ropey and have been glued to the couch then last night in bed I woke feeling really hot, as if I was going to have diahorrea, awful nausea, insomnia and on the occasion I did nod off had awful nightmares. The diahorrea came this morning 😢.
I am at day 10 of my cycle so am only on 75 estradot at the moment.
I have been here before I am sure but last night was so awful. I thought after 5 years with other similar episodes I would be past this awfulness.
I just need to hear from some others on here that this does sound like peri which will give me the strength to carry on xx

Keeping a journal can help track how we feel each day/night. It is probably hormones! I get the feeling that I need the loo in the early hours but daren't 'go' in case it's a bug :-\ so lay awake 'in case' :sigh:

Sorry to hear you're not so good.
I'm going through a weird stage at the moment.
My mirena is due to be changed in August and I'm trying to get an appointment at the Drs for a chat about what to do next. I'm 55 so do I need a new mirena or not. I am wondering if it is now running out as I feel so awful.Couldnt get an appointment when I rang this morning. I was told because of the Drs strike there has been no appointment slots released :-\ whatever that means. I was told to ring back in the morning.
I really feel for you it is a horrible journey. We are all here for you EllaM.

Sounds normal to me. I go through huge fluctuations. A few weeks back, I was feeling terrible, ill & exhausted, felt like I was dying and couldn't imagine every feeling better. Then I was suddenly ok, bags of energy, no hot flushes, no aches, no symptoms at all - even started to convince myself that all this peri stuff must have been in my head and I'd just had a few weeks of feeling poorly. Then all the symptoms came back... Enjoy the good times while you can & remind yourself that the worst times don't stay that way forever.

I have been reading some posts on the impact of high estrogen in peri and do think this may be the case as I have noticed that my vaginal discharge has changed and is 'stringy' which is a sign of ovulation. Just hoping it settles soon as I feel so down but have so much to live for.
Dr Currie has suggested either a trial off hrt or if this is too daunting having a mirena fitted to avoid the progesterone fluctuations. I just need to get over this latest blip before I think about this as neither would address estrogen surges. I am seriously thinking about a chemical menopause.

This thread is reassuring. Dorothy, your fluctuations sound like mine. I begin to think it's depression and anxiety disorder, which I have no history of, and then I feel fine with no symptoms and realize that it's not depression, it's depressING. I never imagined that I would be strong enough to handle these ups and downs. The whole thing is stressful and exhausting, but seeing that others are having the same at least makes it seem normal and takes a bit of the worry away.

Can I just ask about the tummy troubles? I know that nausea is a common symptom but does anyone else suffer with loose bowels when they are experiencing fluctuations?

10 mins. prior to a bleed I would have to find a loo, fast! :o. That was when I was having regular bleeds. I couldn't plan journeys as I needed the loo immediately. HORMONES!

That was one of my symptoms when I first sought help for menopause. When I awoke in the morning, I had to go immediately, with loose bowels, and went several times throughout the morning. This was a major change from my normal routine of waking, doing a few chores, flushing with a cup of coffee or two, and then maybe go to the bathroom. I haven't been having those tummy issues since starting hrt, but I do occasionally feel a little gaggy like morning sickness for a few days. I blame that on hormones.

Thanks Lizab, that's reassuring. I don't have it all of the time but when my hormones are playing silly buggers it gets really bad.
This whole thing is a proverbial pain in the a*** :)

Wow... You have just described EXACTLY how my stomach is acting many mornings :o ! That makes me feel a whole lot better!
Is the explanation for this the actual fluctuations, or is it that you are low/high on either estrogen or progesterone?

I have no idea. I've since started hrt, and no more morning dash to the toilet, but in several other ways I'm still a mess, so I must be going through fluctuations.

For me I usually get it when my estrogen is high (I think) and sometimes with my period. There is definitely a surge of something going on. I gather it may also to do with cortisol. It's not nice at all xx

Hello EllaM.
I am post meno now but I do remember the morning loose bowels. I read that oestrogen promotes gut motility and progesterone reduces it, for this reason constipation is usually a problem for post meno women.
It makes sense to me that your hormonal fluctuations are the cause and in my own case the diarrhoea stopped and hasn't returned. I'm not sure why but I assume it's a phase that passed and let's hope yours does too.

Can you experience surges and fluctuations many days in a row? I had eggwhite mucus Thursday last week. Since then I've experienced lots of discharge, mild cramping, backache, heavy boobs, etc. Today I had diarreah in the morning....

I suspect you can as I have had times where I can feel awful one day, better the next, the rubbish again.
I noticed brown discharge last night and this morning it is pinky red so combined with other symptoms recently I believe that I have ovulated. I slept well, although still feel exhausted, and didn't go to the loo this morning and have no nausea, so all pointing to ovulation albeit early in the month.
The bowel habits fit with the pattern described by Kathleen.
Now that I have ovulated I hope things settle although I am worried about adding extra progesterone if my body is going to produce its own. Would be interested to if anyone else has tinkered with progesterone dose after ovulation.
I'm so desperate to get back to work and just want things to settle x

Has anyone experienced more of "random" cramping in peri? My cramps today have not been severe but annoying enough that I took an ibuprofen in the morning. Usually I would only get cramps a few days before my period and then during my period, but now I'm supposddly 12 days away....

I can change from one day to the next, though now I find it is more likely to come in blocks of a few days at a time. And yes, cramping happens all over the place. The only 'rule' about peri seems to be that there are no rules!

I agree Dorothy. Although HRT may be in 28 day cycles if our own hormones are still in the background we can't go by this regular pattern. I guess we need to consider what our cycles would be like at this time of our lives if we weren't on hrt. I suspect they would be all over the place.
If you are concerned though you could always get it checked out x

And just like that... The cramps are almost completely gone, the wet discharge is gone and the diarreah is gone.... I have also been much less tired today.

I am crippled with anxiety and still have some spotting which all points to a dip in estrogen. Physically not too bad at all but the anxiety is awful. Considering adding a bit more estrogen but am also worried about tinkering as I'm already on 75mcg. It's so difficult :-\
