Title: Just had weirdest sensation
Post by: ariadne on April 04, 2016, 09:28:26 AM
Sitting at work concentrating on a report, looked up at my screen and suddenly had the weirdest sensation - like I had dropped 6 floors in a lift. Not dizzy exactly but completely disorientated - like the world moved and I stayed still. Now feel slightly unnerved and worried. Sipping my coffee and hoping it was just a one off thing. :-\

Sounds like disassociation to me. You can get it when focused on something intently, particularly computer  screens - the mind goes into a trancelike state and when you come back to the world, you are it can feel very unreal. Mine is often accompanied by an adrenaline surge ( which sounds like what your lift falling lurch was ) and a feeling of being off kilter. I'd avoid coffee tbh if it was caffeinated as anything stimulating can make these things worse. And try and limit time staring at screen. Keep having a break by lifting eyes up and focusing on your surroundings.

Ariadne the exact same thing happened to me last week!

Was sitting on sofa looking at my iPad and then all of a sudden felt like everything around me shifted a little bit! It only lasted seconds but it frightened the day lights out of me! My heart started pounding which bought on a flush, not nice.

I don't know what it was but it's exactly like you describe.

Wishing you well xxx

Drop in blood pressure?
Vertigo?
Drop in hormones?

Drop in something that's for sure - the world it seemed!

Thanks coldethyl - I'd only been at work 5 minutes before it happened. I AM guilty of not taking enough screen breaks at work though I will admit.

Claireylou - sounds just like what I experienced and I too feel flushed now and a little doddery. Hope it never happens again.

Ariadne, I've had that sensation and it's horrible. Feels like you're going to black out but yes, totally unnerving and makes you feel scared it's going to happen again. Don't know what causes it.

I get that often.  Still here >wave< ……… I have a nerve in the back of my neck which becomes trapped if I move my head suddenly.

I also get this as always have my laptop on my lap and always looking down then get that weird sensation which is awful but I wondered if it was something to do with having my neck bent?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one then but I have to say I was rather worried when it happened. Put me all out of sorts for a good while.

Thanks for reassurance ladies  :)

I hate that feeling. I seem to have it more now with all the other meno mental stuff, but I have had it before when my thyroid dose was a little off. Not trying to scare you into thinking something else is wrong, as I can't tell which causes what anymore, but if it keeps happening you may want to have your thyroid levels checked.

I have had it for many many years, always blamed it on my very damaged neck as it tends to happen when I am looking down at something on a table or staring at the computer screen.  Its like a split second vertigo in a lift ::)
Still scares the xxx out of me when it does it but as I have had it for 20 years .....

Countrybumpkin, that's what I think mine is and I actually had it again before but I've also noticed it happens more when I'm tired.

I've had this twice and find in very unnerving as previously said its when looking down I was bending forward to pick up empty cup off table and it was like a sliding motion to me, scary! Can't remember if I had a period or not though as quite a long time ago.
