Hi ladies, can anyone offer advice please?
I'm almost 45 and well into perimeno. Just lately my hot sweats have ramped up to the point I feel like I'm going to explode :-\
Along with these intense feelings of heat comes a racing heart which feels like it's galloping in my chest. This leaves me feeling really jittery and anxious, a bit like when you're in a scary situation and you get an adrenaline rush?
I'm sorry if none of that made sense, I'm having a terrible day. Period due (supposedly) next week and my health anxiety is through the roof.
Thank you for reading xxx :)

Hello Claireylou.
Sorry to read that you're suffering. Many ladies will be familiar with your plight, me included!
In the past my heart felt as if it would leap out of my chest and it was a truly awful feeling. Oddly, I never worried about how my heart would cope so it didn't result in any health anxiety on that score although I do know some ladies worry about that.
Just recently I've been fiddling with my patch again by cutting even more off and my flushing, anxiety, palpitations and sweating have really ramped up so perhaps I need to re-think!
I am post meno and you are obviously peri but could it be that your period will not arrive on time and that will be causing this surge of symptoms?
I am not an HRT expert sadly but I can reassure you that you are not alone. If it's any comfort I'm sure these sensations ill do you no harm but they are alarming and you have my sympathy.
Take care.

Hi there Kathleen,
Thank you so much for responding. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling too. I had a spell last year when my periods became long and late. Things settled for about six months or so and now I'm back to them being long and late again. I get sore boobs directly after my period then they go back to normal. I just feel like everything is ramping up again, there is a definite shift. More anxiety, more pms etc. and now this galloping heart :-\
It makes me wonder what's coming next!
Thank you again, your words are comforting xxx

Hi, first time on forum :) and what do I read? Yep, my biggest symptom (this month) ;) I suffered from palpitations before HRT, then they stopped and have now restarted with a vengeance - last bout, last night. I am quite sure this is normal, but I'm training myself not to worry and think I'm having a heart attack. Take care :D

Hi Trish, :welcomemm:
Sorry to hear you're suffering too but many thanks for replying.
Yes it's very scary isn't it? They have eased off a bit now but it's left me feeling very jittery, almost wobbly!
Thanks again xxx

Claireylou, Trish here ;D thought I'd change my name to how my face looks (&fave drink) . "Jittery" is the exact word I use - hey we're in it together :-\

;D
It's a comfort knowing I'm not alone. Wouldn't wish this living hell on anyone but, well, you know what I mean :)

My palpitations and anxiety rise when I know I'm low on oestrogen e.g. when my patch has dropped off and I have not noticed or when I have forgotten to change it.
For me the two are very definitely clearly linked.
I have never suffered with either until menopause and I do my best to avoid it because I know I become totally horribly irrational when the anxiety starts...... :o

Yes me too! They are adrenaline/cortisol rushes, I think from falling oestrogen as cortisol apparently rises in relation to oestrogen falling.
I had them worse just before period and then they would gradually improve as month went on and were worse when natural adrenaline is high around 5am and late afternoon. A GP said I had developed a tachycardia and it wasn't dangerous but made the natural adrenaline highs more apparent. I also struggle with stamina because my heart is going about 20bpm higher than it used to. Mine have calmed a lot since starting the pill but low dose beta blockers also helped before then, as they dampen adrenaline spikes without affecting the CNS too much.
Its such a horrible feeling isn't it, just like that rush of adrenaline when you see a car out the corner of your eye when you've stepped into the road, except it stays for hours! :o

Homeopathic Aconite works for me

Thank you so much ladies. They have stopped completely this morning thank goodness.
Dangermouse, yes you have described the feeling perfectly and it's not a nice feeling at all. Pollie this anxiety is totally irrational but very very real and I'm sorry you've experienced it too! Kate, thank you, I shall do some reading up.
Thanks ladies, lots to think about xxx

Mine werent helped by low thyroid so might be useful to get that checked, apparently its one of the signs and easily missed thinking its just menapause. Pretty much under control though I tend to get them in evening after dinner but very briefly. sometimes it just makes my chest feel tight and a good cough takes the feeling away. Very alarming when they first happen, :o
-
Thank you Winterose, I had bloods done a few weeks ago and they all came back ok thankfully.
I shall try having a good cough next time they arrive.
Thank you xxx

Heart issues started for me at 36 in peri, now at 61 I have developed a-fib. Changing hormones ramped up my anxiety causing the pvc's and pac's and I never was able to get my anxiety under control. Now I fight daily with short episodes of a-fib, still have pvc's and pac's too. Thyroid is fine, all other labs always normal, just very sensitive nerves in my atriums causing the irregular beats. Do, take, whatever your doctor recommends, living with this daily is no fun.

Thank you Ann54,
I'm thinking of trying some mindfulness techniques. Other ladies on here seem to have some success with it.
I'll give anything a try at the moment xxx

Hi Claireylou. Is your fast heart rate accompanied by a hot flush?

Hi Taz,
Yes last nights were a mixture of very intense heat and the galloping heart. They seemed to roll into one if that makes sense??
My hot flushes have gone from being a few moments of heat to several hours of intense, uncomfortable heat and last night this was accompanied by the galloping heart. It all left me feeling really jittery and wobbly xxx
-
I used to get this combined with a hot sweat - day and night - but it only lasted around three to four minutes each time. It's caused by the increase in adrenaline and can also make you feel slightly nauseous or as if you are going to need the loo in a hurry. The night time ones did last longer. The heart racing stopped once I was on HRT. Have you counted how many beats per minute your heart is pumping? It's a good idea to do this, while the heart is resting and then when it's galloping, just to get a rough idea of the difference between the two.

Thanks Taz,
I didn't think of doing that but will make a note of my resting heartbeat and then I'll have a comparison next time it happens.
It does feel like an adrenaline rush though. Bit like when you get a scary shock etc xxx

Thanks Taz,
Gosh that was a really interesting article, it does help a lot understanding what's happening and why. It's not so scary then xxx

I'm glad it helped.
