Hi, I went to see a Gyne, n he prescribed me Testim Gel,when I went to the pharmacist he was quite concerned about me taking it? The Gyne told me to take 0.7 of the tube, but didn't say where to put it? Have u had any side effects and how much do u take?x

How old are you and what's your menopause background re ovaries, periods etc?
0.7 of a tube is a very large amount!!! That is three-quarter's of the dose recommended for men which is ridiculous in my view! I can't understand any gynae prescribing this amount! I use a pea-sized blob so the tube lasts over 2 weeks in my case. I am post-menopausal and still have my ovaries though. However if you are younger and having larger dose of oestrogen, and maybe have had ovaries removed and you are younger you could get away with more. I know there are women on here (lancashirelass maybe?) who have used 1/4 a tube but possibly found it too much - hopefully she might be along if I've got the right woman!
I haven't had any major side effects at the dose I take and it's fine for me - but I am on half the dose of oestrogen. Also it takes a while to take effect - Dr Annie Evans said 4-5 months for full effect which is about right. I just have hair growth at the application site. She told me to apply to inner thigh ( well maybe just thigh?).
I would phone up/e-mail the gynae and query this amount. Do you have it in writing? The idea is to replicate the proportion of testosterone we have naturally and I gather it is approx on average 10% of that in men which is why many gynaes say 1/10th of a tube (0.1) and to make it last 10 days - but more for women without ovaries?
Sorry to sound a bit vague!

I use a tube over a week, I've not had any bad side effects from it :)

Hi Hurdity, I'm 52,had total hysterectomy 4yrs ago. I know he just drew me a graph n there was 0.5 n then 0.7. I did say to him would it be better to start on the lower dose n he said no 0.7. I think I will start with a pea size, I'm a bit worried about taking it. He said I may get hair growth, I've already got a hairy face n arms? Did it help with your Muscletone?x

I'm 42 this July, yes still have my ovaries and I use 4 pumps of oestrogel a day :) am supposed to take utrogestan each month but I hate taking it as it makes me really depressed so I'm due to have the Mirena next month 😬 X

I'm just wondering if we are talking at cross purposes re the dosage - as you didn't say the time period for taking 0.7 of a tube? If it was this much per week then that's fine ie tube lasts about 10 days - which is what I was told - and as Chi Chi says if you are having a normal cycle and have high oestrogen, slightly more than this is fine too. If he said that much per day it is defo too much!

The dosage was for per day? , I'm not taking it until I've spoke to him. I thought it was too much, that's why I posted this. Thx for ur replies Hurdity, u seem very knowledgable.x

Sorry I forgot to answer that bit - yes re the muscle tone - that is one of the main reasons I wanted to try it - extreme tiredness especially in the mornings and muscle pain especially after exercise - my back used to ache so much after some of the classes I took and that has gone now so definitely I was lacking in this hormone. It does make me wonder what would have happened if I hadn't gone to a specialist - just got worse I suppose, would have had to stop the more strenuous classes perhaps and become an achey old lady less able to do stuff! I do dread that if I stop all of this!

I have recently been prescribed Testim Gel also. My gynae consultant said the tube should last 7-10 days, - (the blob should be the size of a generous marrowfat pea to manage this!), and I was told to rub it on my inner thighs, although I use my outer thighs, as I also have to fit 3 sachets of sandrena oestrogel to apply, too!! I have read somewhere that the gels have to be rubbed onto fatty areas covered by shorts - as a guide. This works out at roughly a tenth of the male dose, which I've read elsewhere to give same info. Essentially, you should tell by how you feel as a result of taking it, she said. (Nb, any consequences of overdosing wouldn't be evident until 3 months after starting on it though).
I am 42, and started perimenopause at 38. Ovaries etc in tact.
Hope that helps.

Fruity baby...are you also on estrogen? Just curious as I'd like to try the testim, but i'm not on estrogen.

Think she says she is on 3 sachets of estrogen ::)

I use testogel too along with estradot and utrogestan
Brilliant ;)

Hi fruitie-baby
:welcomemm:
I vary the site I apply my testogel. I was doing alternate upper thighs but I did start to get hairy at that site and a little distance away (as explained by the pharmacist) + other side effect I won't mention! I now go up and down each thigh and on my lower front abdomen so it doesn't build up anywhere. I wouldn't rub it in otherwise half of it will go into your finger (well that's what I found). I just squeeze a rough blob out and give a quick wipe to spread it over the skin and let it absorb.
I was told the full benefits may not become apparent for 4-5 months!! I have been on it for 14 months.
The only downside for me is that I know it will be upsetting my balance of Tesosterone to oestrogen. T usually becomes relatively dominant after menopause (hence our change to apple shape, and increased hairiness, deeper voices. At my age and well post-meno (63) I don't really want to increase my oestrogen intake as it means more progesterone and my poor old uterus doesn't want to keep doing this!
