Regular readers will know that I had a shock at the start of Dec., when a friend died suddenly.
Regular readers will be aware that I take anti-depressant medication: 5mg Escitalopram night and morning: as well as a Beta-blocka:40mg at night: to ease any anxiety surges. My GP also prescribes an emergency pill on an 'as necessary' basis.
After my friend's death my mental health deteriorated. I began taking the emergency pill with breakfast in order to cope with what ever was ahead. (long story short). I had difficulties when I decided to stop taking it mid-Jan., but have been anxiety free since 23rd Jan. :-\
I spent a while with my GP talking about the break-through depression and explained that when that occurs I take 10mg AD at night and 5mg in the morning. We decided: I thought we had: that I could carry a printed prescription for 10mg 'in case' - that way I could change up the prescription if necessary and would have back-up when Himself and I are on holiday. After that appt. I sent an e-mail to the pharmacy section of our Surgery asking for the prescription to be printed off - nowt appeared.
Last week I sent for my usual medication via e-mail as I do at the end of each month as well as requesting the prescription to be printed off. Collected the ADs on Tuesday, BB wasn't available. Asked again for the prescription to be printed off for the 10mg. Collected BB yesterday, the 10mg packets were there ……… I was too tired to argue the point and took the packet.
Last night I took my AD/BB as usual or so I thought: and my AD at breakfast: all of today I have felt woozy like I've got 'flu - when I went to take my usual meds 10 mins. ago, I found that the AB taken last night was 10mg :o. No wonder I've feel squiffy all day :-\
Bugga - does anyone understand here understand what I need from the Surgery? Off to send an e-mail requesting 5mg :bang: :bang: :bang:

I'm confuddled too. If you normally took 10mg AD at night, last night shouldn't have been any different????
-
So, you normally take 5mg of escitalopram at night, but last night you took 10mg of the other, 'as required' AD instead of the 5mg escitalopram? In the place of it?
What is this other AD? Is it one which would make you sedated? x
-
You've lost me there CLKD - only you and your doc really know what you need/take but just to say sorry to hear you've been feeling rough.
:bighug:
Hurdity x

Can't really follow this. If you normally take 5mgs Escitolpram on a night and sometimes 10mgs on a night when things are difficult, why don't you just take 2 tablets of the 5mgs Escitolpram when you need them rather than having a script for 10 mgs tablets?? And if you need the 5mgs ones and you have been given the 10mgs instead, can you just not break them in half?

Sorry CLKD - Don't understand at all.
Like Bramble says, why not up the 5mg tabs to 2 when you are feeling rough.
What about the BBs and "Emergency" meds - how do they fit into all of this.
-
I have taken 5mg AD morning and night for years ……. when I get deeply depressed I up the night time dosage by taking 2 x 5mg AD which means that I runout of 5mg tablets by the end of the month.
So my GP and I discussed my having a printed prescription for 10mg 'as necessary'.

Hi CKLD :)
In that case, if the 'emergency' pills are the same AD but in larger format, if you're short of the 5mg dose, can you snap 10mg tablet in half?
Or, if you're short of the 10mg can you take 2 of the 5mg in times of need?
And then in future would it be simpler all round to ask your GP to just prescribe 5mg, but more of them? To cover 'emergency' doses.
They would also appear as one item on your script as well (in case that's an issue) :great:
Hope you get it sorted :)
-
I'll shut up now 'cos you're all confused :-\
-
I sort of get it CLKD. I also know that if I change any of my meds, the script invariably goes wrong. I spent three months trying to get one med right!
Can you not cut the 10mg in half until you sort this out ?
-
:thankyou: Himself will wield a sharp blade later as I have now taken all the 5mg which is my usual dose.
The emergency pill is similar to Valium, on an as necessary basis. The 10mg AD was for those times when my brain needs a boost which fortunately, isn't often. What I wanted was a printed prescription not the medication itself ::)
-
The 5mg is to take at night and in the morning (esitolpram) plus the beta blocker.
The 5mg changes to 10mg at night when you were bad.
The emergency tablet is taken as and when required.
I think that's right?

Well done! 9/10 ;)
I decided that to carry the printed prescription 'in case' I required 10mg instead of the regular 5 x 2, would save medication wing wasted ::)

At last!
