Not something I'm used too... The other day I couldn't stop a little bit of urine from leaking out when I sneezed. What is the most likely reason for this in peri?
-
Unfortunately that's an age thing :(
-
Oh dear you made me chuckle! Join the club had 4 children so been doing it for years but gets worse with menopause. Have you not heard of Tena ladies!
-
quite a common occurrence at our stage of life, Tena are good. Can be due to slack pelvic floor but mine has improved since treating my vaginal atrophy with local oestrogen.
-
And I didn't even have to go that bad..... So I figured it had something to do with age/hormones.
-
Hello 20032003.
I think hormones and age are to blame. I try to get my knees together before a sneeze or cough and I seem to do a little dip as well. It looks like a courtesy and if it wasn't for the spluttering you'd think I was meeting the queen!
I haven't resorted to Tena Lady yet but I could be just one heavy cold away at this rate.
Take care.

Kathleen ;D
been doing this slightly since baby no 3, sometimes worse than others. Worse if i have a full bladder.
-
apparently you can get Tena pants now and, if the adverts are to be believed, if you use them you can turn somersaults and do cartwheels and dance the night away :hapij: :spin: :veil:

Do your pelvic floor exercises every day 20032003 - you are the only person who can stop this getting worse - the "cure" is all in your hands - or, rather, your pelvic floor muscles!!

Is there somewhere where I can get a good overview of what excercises I need to do?

Try this site http://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/patient-information/maternity/pelvic-floor-exercises-for-women.pdf It explains it really well.

Thank you :) ! Will start tomorrow :) !

It happens occasionally to me too, and I've never had any children, so it's definitely caused by age - just another one of those delightful things that can happen to us ladies.
-
I wonder if it is related to my other problem as well? Could weak/dysfunctional pelvic muscles cause problems getting all your poo out? I sometimes have the sensation in that area of not being able to relax my muscles properly....
-
I have read somewhere (on an internet site I think) that a symptom of peri / meno is the thinning of the bladder wall. I haven't had children and dont have an issue when I sneeze but when I was coughing my lungs up with pneumonia last year I experienced the same problem 20032003.
Since I started my HRT (less than 2 weeks ago!) my bladder feels stronger and I was about to post the same question as you 20032003?
Some one on here is bound to know ::)

This sounds like early prolapse symptoms to me 20032003 but I think we have mentioned this before? Pelvic floor exercises will help.
Sooby - lack of oestrogen causes a thinning of the skin tissue. The collagen diminishes which is what causes sagging and thinning skin on the body as well as internal organs. The pelvic floor can become weak as the muscles lose their elasticity so it's important to keep them toned up by exercising them every day. Not easy to remember to do it though.

Have been looked at by gyno twice and she says no prolapse... I'm reading about that you can also have overactive pelvic floor muscles which can cause these symtoms too. I think I will speak with my naprapath and see if she knows something about this issue....
-
I have it, too. When sneezing, laughing, running ... A pitty as I dont dare do any aerobic exercises that involve jumping, etc. I do have prolapse, which has become worse sincemy second birth. I have been told this can lead to more serious incontinence issues later on - oh well, not prepared to think that far, although I should! >:(

It depends on how much it's affecting your life Milamam. If you do think that you would like to get some advice about getting it fixed then it's definitely better to do it sooner rather than later before everything else begins that slow, downward slide :o
