Title: Mood slump?😟😟
Post by: Ljp on January 14, 2016, 09:41:53 AM
Been using mirena for 6 weeks with initially one pump oestrogel, now two pumps for the last week. Also have estring for VA/ bladder. Had bleeding/spotting for 5 weeks, now easing since the increase in oestrogel, also no power surge/sweat when I wake in the mornings.

HOWEVER last two days I've felt really grumpy, that horrible tired, don't feel like talking to anyone kind of slump.

Any ideas?

Both times I started oestrogel, initially the one pump, and again last week when I upped it tom2 pumps, I felt great! Even sexy! Not liking feeling down, and makes it worse when family comment 😟

Sorry to hear this Lisajp - you are still peri-menopausal aren't you? If so then this can happen as HRT at medium/low doses doesn not override your own hormones so it is possilby that which is contributing to your mood dip. Hopefully it will lift soon?

Thanks Hurdity, no I was considered menopausal, no periods since August 2014. 😟

Oo-er... hopefully you are not reacting to the progestogen in the Mirena? Maybe your oestrogen levels are fluctuating a little - as there is likely to be more variation with how much is applied and what area of the body you cover - maybe?

So out of interest, those of you that are menopausal and using continuos HRT, do you feel good all the time? Or do you have odd days of feeling a bit down?

When I was on continuous HRT I felt the same all the time.  However, that feeling was not as good as the way I feel now but I have a serious problem with all types of synthetic progesterone which most women don't have so I don't think I am a very good example.

My advice would be to keep going for a bit longer with the Mirena and see how you feel.  Keep a note of your moods, bladder problem and spotting and then you can make a decision.  I know you are thinking of changing to the Utrogestan but that will mean full blown periods which you are not getting now with the Mirena so that's something to bear in mind.

Thank you Mary G, I guess I'm expecting to feel great all the time, as I did the first few days, both when I first started on one pump of oestrogel, then again last week when I started on two pumps.

My other consideration I guess could be whether two pumps are enough? it seems to be very much a case of trial and error, but dont want to rush into increasing, without giving the two pumps a good trial for a while

Still not good, worried now in case I am reacting to the progesterone in the coil?

Even before HRT though, although I was menopausal, having had no periods for 16 months, I still found myself getting hormonal grumpiness around what would have been time of the month, so could it just be that again?

All of know is, I HATE it when I am a stroppy, miserable cow to my family 😟😟

Lisajp, sorry if you have already done this but have your considered a visit to Professor Studd?  If you are very worried and this is ruining your life then you need to seek the advice of a hormone expert.  I doubt that many GPs would be qualified to advise you on this and he would immediately be able to tell you what you need to do going forward.

No I haven't considered seeing a specialist as I have to watch my money, I could possibly afford a consultation, but only if I can have the HRT prescribed so I can still get it together n the NHS, and not sure that possible is it!

My mood has slumped since I've increased the oestrogel to two pumps this last week.

Lisajp, you could ring Professor Studd's office next week and speak to his secretary.  He costs around £300 for a consultation and I am pretty sure he will write a letter of recommendation to your doctor which will enable you to get an NHS prescription but you could check this with his secretary before going ahead with an appointment.  He takes credit cards if that helps.

I do understand that you should not need to pay for private treatment and the NHS should be providing you with this service but despite the new NICE guidelines, we still seem to be getting endless problems with women not getting the HRT regime they need.  At least if you get a letter from him stating his recommendations, it will be difficult for them to refuse.

I gave up on my GP years ago, she point blank refused to prescribe HRT and simply stood up and terminated the appointment.  I told her that I would just go away and buy it myself anyway but even that didn't move her, she just made a note of it on my records.  She knew far less about HRT that I did so I can't be bothered to waste my time on her anymore.

Thanks for the information and advice, I think I will co tinge as I am for at least my first three mo the, unless it gets worse, I am hoping it's just another adjustment phase.
I haven't out ruled seeing a hormone specialist, but I would prefer to save the money if my current regime settles and works for me.

It's a case of not knowing if it's the extra pump of oestrogel upsetting things a bit, or if it is the mirena, having now been in place for sux weeks, if the progestogen is is having an effect

Hi jazzcj,  sorry you are spotting loads and feeling low too 😟 how long have you been on HRT? What HRT are you using?
It's certainly not a stroll in park trying to balance ourselves again is it 😢 You'd think by now, there would be more support and help through our GPs and surgeries, not like it doesn't happen to EVERY woman! Could say it's a mid life female epidemic! And as such, it needs addressing, not brushing under the carpet!
