I know I can ask anything here! My menopause isn't too bad, but I am noticing when I go to the loo and when showering, my nether regions do not smell great, my perineal area is more moist, it's not vaginal, so is it sweat? I blot away, do have baby wipes, but don't want to overuse & worry I'm being a bit paranoid. No one else can smell me, just me.
For a long time I'd not used soap down below because the skin became sore, so just used the shower head & hand. I'm now using Johnsons baby soap (not that easy to find, it's all "washes" & gels in bottles now) I always wear a panti liner & do wonder if some of them smell a bit when they warm up. When I shower in the morning and wash below it is definitely smellier than before.
Is this just another menopause thing, how do you cope?

Yes me too,, I have noticed this all the time and more so since changing hrt and also my gp told me not to use any soaps or femwash as my skin was raw, Its not vile or offensive its just stale i suppose and always notice it when im pulling my clothes down for a wee.
-
I also find that perfumed always ultra stink
-
Yep me too, it tends to be when my hormones dip or change, usually before period is due and after finished too, I tend to use Carefree 'Fresh' panty liners every day now!
-
I have given up having a bath , just incase it aggravates my Va, which is such as shame as I had loads of beautiful , but highly perfumed bubble baths lotions for Christmas !
I do not use anything to wash myself down there , I do have some Dermol shower wash the dr gave me but I definitely agree with that certain smellthat you notice, it's not offensive but it certainly wasn't there before

One of the first things I noticed, along with period fluctuations, when I started. I'm a bit less pongy now, but still worse than I was before this whole thing started! I use Vagisil wash which is great for getting rid of the smell and doesn't sting or cause any irritation. It's quite expensive but lasts for ages as I only use it around that area. You can get it from most chemists.

I'm finding I just smell more in general. I've taken to carrying loads of pantyliners round with me and a deodorant spray. Tbh it's the sweats that upset me the most smell wise. They don''t even smell of sweat- just cold fear.

What a lot of people are reading this forum! I saw a feminine hygiene wash the other day and wondered whether to give it a try, I like nice soap , I'm not a lover of gels etc, have never wished to steam or use down below sprays, vaginas are self cleaning!
-
I have used aqueous cream for washing the neather regions for years. Recently I was advised to use emulsifying ointment instead. Soap is a big no no for me.
-
Yep, I agree Ju Ju. I use aqueous cream, just on my bits. :o

I'd really recommend it! I was using a gentle soap before and it really stung. The Vagisil doesn't sting at all and is even more effective at dealing with the smell. I couldn't not use anything - I tried that and I just couldn't stand the smell, I was smelling it all the time - at least now, I only notice it when I go to the loo or get changed.

Oh the menopause 'whiff' ::) - it's under my arm pits that I notice a difference but DH can't smell me, either that or he likes the new me.
How is your diet? Have you altered what you eat? If possible go around knickerless for a while which lets the air circulate ;)
-
It seems common, and normal at this time of life. I, too, hold my hand up to a certain odour at times.

Bumped my thread …… :whist:
-
Vagisil is buy one get one half price at Boots (my local boots anyway) at the moment.

I teach dance classes, and Zumba, and Fitsteps classes, and the last couple of years or so, I've noticed when I start to sweat at class that I get a strange smell, not easy to describe, but almost like wheat pack that's been microwaved (if you know what I mean?)
I feel very self conscious of it, and not easy to keep away from people at the end of class as I like to chat to my ladies and check they are happy and have enjoyed their workout.
I use deodorant, and always spray a bit of pervume on my clothing before class.
Just not nice, it's not like BO smell, just unusual smell

One think - sometimes my anxiety is increased if I smell perfume or after shave, one reason why I had to stop going to the theatre :-\ …….. and I apply an anti-perspirant without perfume rather than deodorant - the first does what is says on the tin, the other is another smell to cover body odour.
Did you read my thread which I :bounce: :-\
-
i have found that too
i use simple shower gel(the clear one) it doesnt sting and has no perfume
and i use baby wipes when i go to the loo
its the armpit smell i cant handle-- i smell like a man thats been working on a building site when i get up in the mornings
but mum says she cant smell it
-
It probably smells 'usual' to her, my sense of taste has altered in recent years and the two are linked. Himself says he can't smell me when I ask him to check :-\
-
you could be right i just wish it smelled normal to me too its awful :(
-
I wash with dermol to avoid irritation and after i've peed, i leave pants down for an extra few minutes to air bits off ::) as my urine smells strong to me. I've noticed a 'chemical' sort of smell from underarm area and use perfume more liberally now.
-
i have to use a 48hour deodorant twice a day, good job for pound shops
-
Perfume can alter on the skin with hormonal fluctuations :o.
I haven't used perfume for years ::)
Using a good anti-persperitant not a deodorant will help - they each do what it says on the tin! it's in the wording ::)
-
ok will change to anti persperant and see how it goes
-
Think about the wording - anti = stop sweating. Deoderent - deodorises ;-)
If you can ease the sweating you won't feel that you are whiffy ;-). I don't need to use either now unless I'm going to an event. When I had lymph glands removed from under the arm pit - that area doesn't sweat!
I have in the past used both - at one time there were dual-purpose products too.

I use a bit of Sylk vaginal moisturiser as this seems to make everything smell more 'natural' down there!!! DG x
